General Discussion Area / car insurance comparison sites
« on: 01 July 2022, 12:47:35 »
my car insurance is due on the 25th July & already Iv,e had the meercats quoting me. the lowest quote seemed high to me so i thought I,d check out confused & they beat the meercats by almost £100. within a few minutes of browsing i got an email from Aviva my current insurer beating all other quotes. only by a tenner plus its gone down this coming year, which i don,t recall that happening for a long while. it did kinda make me wonder if Aviva was aware that I had browsed comparison sites.

General Discussion Area / My best friends demise,
« on: 30 June 2022, 16:03:34 »
my good pal in York that I drank with almost every Saturday night for years was taking his son some where & whilst in the car started to feel ill, so much so that his son took him to the A&E. sadly he never came out. he was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia. he was given 3 blood transfusions but nothing worked.  when his wife went to see him on the Monday she was told that he wouldnt last the  week. he died on the Wednesday. when he was first admitted his prognosis was he had covid. i believe there was a delay in getting the blood test results because of staffing problems due to the Queens jubilee, though poor sod would not have survived anyway. life is sh*t sometimes

i wonder how many of the glamorous ladies that have married the top footballers would have if the guys had different jobs that didnt pay a fraction of what the top footballers earn

General Discussion Area / Turkey again
« on: 08 May 2022, 20:20:29 »
mention in an earlier thread that i visited Istanbul as a young merchant seaman, whilst there i witnessed a crowd of locals having a go at a guy that was being protected by two turkish orthodox priests. however the crowd did get hold of him & apart from him getting severely beaten they gouged both of his eyes out.. the police were looking on but didnt interfere . i did find out later that he had raped a young girl & the priests were trying to escort him to the police.

General Discussion Area / turkish vacation
« on: 07 May 2022, 13:06:37 »
having just booked a 2wk stay in Icmeler I was surprised to find out that a visitor does no longer need to put a £10 note in thier passport to obtain a entry visa. plus no change given if one happened to only had £20,s which caught many a couple out if they thought a 20 would pay for both visa,s. also according to other sources obtain turkish lira by changing sterling over there for a better rate. anyway first job change money then a visit to a turkish barbers  followed by a turkish bath.  footnote it will be almost 60 yrs to a day since i visited Istanbul as a 16 yr old deckboy, my first trip to sea

General Discussion Area / Gogroopie
« on: 11 April 2022, 22:06:30 »
gogroopie are a company that have a catalogue of goods to sell & last december 24th  I ordered an article that was advertised as a bogof deal. when my purchase arrived a single unit only came & it was damaged. it took nearly 2 mths for me to recieve it has it was a china merchant.  i am now at the stage where to get my money back it seems i will have to go to a small claims court. gogroopie will not refund me they have sent me the address in china & told me to send the goods back, but i have stated nobody told me that i was dealing with a chinese merchant & as far as i am concerned it was Gogroopie that i paid. Do i register my claim initially with a county court . i have never been in this situ before & the sum is under £50.

« on: 05 March 2022, 21:33:08 »
years ago when i was a merchant seaman identifying russian ships was easy. Black sea ports - black funnels with hammer & sickle .  White sea including the Baltic sea - white funnels. my wonder is what if Putin wants Rumania & Bulgaria back under russian rule

General Discussion Area / satnav update
« on: 12 January 2022, 11:19:59 »
I did let Evans Halshaw update my satnav in the end . a fixed price £120 . in with the price was a health check of which covered practically everything on the car. the only thing they deemed to be at fault with was the windscreen wipers & advised renewing. also whilst they had my car, in the price of the satnav update was a valet service. so i got it back in a very highly polished state, even the tyres were gleaming.  :y :y

General Car Chat / sat nav woe
« on: 03 January 2022, 22:13:01 »
i travelled down to Hampshire on the early hours of boxing day & although it wasnt my first trip I still need the satnav once i turn off the M3. It was bad weather all the way from Nth Yorks to reaching my destination & first of all the cars navigation packed up then a garmin i have wouldnt work to top it all google maps on my phone wasn,t very good. but in a lot of places the water as i drove through it, the waves i created were above the door windows so the weather i presumed was making sattelite reception to be poor. my cars sat nav is not behaving as it should, it keeps turning itself off & i get the DS logo in its place. it will switch on asking if i want to resume navigation. the cars instruction book has no " Fault check " pages & the dealer wants £99 to do a diagnostic check.  i also have been told to update maps that will take them 3 hrs.
