General Car Chat / car battery rip off
« on: 11 July 2020, 18:46:40 »
my son had until very recently had a diesel ford escort derived van. he needed a battery & a local garage that he rang told him to take it to them. they quoted him £70 so he left it with them . half a hour later he got a call & expected to be told it was ready instead they said when the quoted they hadn,t realised that it had a stop/start system & the quote had gone up a bit to £340.

General Car Chat / low adblue
« on: 10 May 2020, 23:30:15 »
this DS4 I have through up a warning about ad-blue needed a top-up & i immediatley topped up. however the urea warning remained .when i got home i looked up probable cause & the warning i got shows an orange light initially & although it needs an adblue top up i should get 900mls before its critical. if i ignore then a red warning light appears ,carry on ignoring & eventually the engine wont start,. the urea tank holds 17ltrs, but there is no way of knowing how much is in . i topped up initially with 1.5 ltrs then i had a 5ltr at home & put that in too. took it for a drive and after 2mls the urea warning went off . however the eml is on. saying all that the car is performing as it should so wonder if its just a matter of clearing the fault , .open to any words of wisdom , i havent a clue.

General Car Chat / car servicing ?
« on: 14 April 2020, 00:48:13 »
just a thought about servicing a car. when my present motor was approaching a service date i would get a message on the display service due " date or 4800 mls " whichever came first. so did have the service done along with its m.o.t. my question is - how did the vehicle know its had the job done. ??

General Discussion Area / hermes tracking
« on: 09 April 2020, 14:56:37 »
i have been waiting for a delivery since march 24th. the retailer posted that he dispatched it & i should of received it by the 28th,  i know for a fact hermes have got a know contact policy at the mo but in the last week i have had deliveries, in fact i ordered a new petrol lawnmower that was due to be with me between sat 11th - tues 14th & it arrived 10am today. i have a theory re the missing goods - i ordered & paid via paypal. then the retailer bought a postal label  so got a tracking No but in reality he hasn,t got the item & is awaiting a stock delivery from china. i go onto hermes tracking at least twice a day & get " We are waiting for your parcel from the sender" also contacted the seller via paypal twice & been told be patient. anybody experience this.

General Car Chat / oil change (or not)
« on: 26 March 2020, 23:53:47 »
yesterday my car was put in for its mot & a service, 8.30 am. it was ready for 11.30. i supplied the oil as i wanted to make sure it was the one reccomended for the vehicle. the fitment is 3.75 ltrs & it was a 5ltr container that i left with them. my drive from the garage to home is less than 1/2ml. when i took the oil can out of my boot i noticed there was only about 3/4 of a ltr left. so i surmise it had been overfilled. i left it whilst today to check. it was up so i sucked it out with a mitivac , but i was left wondering if they actually changed the oil filter as the oil was black looking. the omegas i have had after an oil change it was quite hard to see it. its got me wondering. :-\

General Discussion Area / builders next door
« on: 20 March 2020, 15:31:57 »
the old lady that lived next door to me was admitted to hospital & after about two months she died. ( age 93 ). the bungalow has been sold & builders are in. now being in that game myself i do know when living next door you can have to put up with noise, but i couldn,t believe this . a wagon turned up with loft insulation , only 8 rolls on a pallet with polythene to protect from damp.. the wagon was equipped with its own forklift but the driver actually dumped the pallet right in the gateway which is the way into both properties. it ended up being there for three days. the only way into both bungalows was to use my driveway gates,

General Car Chat / ds 4
« on: 09 March 2020, 20:46:20 »
when i chose to get rid of my dti last july i did so because i spotted my present car , low mileage no road tax & a lot more m.p.g,s also the price was right. regards my dti because i did it myself, an oil change with new filter + sump plug probably cost me about £20. when changing air filter & an occasional pollen filter add another & £20 . tomorrow i am having a service done on my ds4 by the dealer so,s the stamp goes towards upkeep of the warranty at the cost of £309. . plus they want the car from 10am - 5pm. ::)
