so what if it causes financial damage to the UK ?

it would still be worth leaving.

I'd happily give up my job to be out of the EU

Omega General Help / Re: very rusty
« on: 22 April 2014, 22:46:32 »
I haven't seen an Omega B that rusty, but Omega As are mostly that rusty and the only real difference is the age.

just for reference, I'm just starting to weld a Vanden Plas Princess which has no floors at all, no chassis rails and no sills - indeed, the only reason the front stays attached to the back is that the doors are welded together.

Omega General Help / Re: Oil Pressure lost...
« on: 22 April 2014, 22:31:24 »
I should qualify a bit.....

over the years, I've stripped and rebuilt 12 Omega B V6 engines. In each case, the big ends were compromised to the extent that the bearing surface had completely worn away to expose the copper/brass substrate structure. I've yet to strip one where this hasn't happened.

None of the corresponding main bearings had been worn to that extent.

yes, of course the cause behind this is oil starvation and not the design of the engine

This is to be compared against the other 150 or so engines that I've rebuilt, which show a more normal bearing failure pattern across different types.

cool.

I do have about five spare switches from all of the "autoectomy" operations I've performed over the years

that's the one on the side of the transmission ?

when first started, on selecting "D", all of the quadrant lights illuminate and start flashing.

Omega General Help / Re: stereo swap
« on: 22 April 2014, 16:35:08 »
there's basically two different types of stereo fitted to Omega B - those with BOSE and those without.

you can swap like-for-like, but fitting unalike will result in damage.

if you're at all not sure, then \I could have a look for you.......

General Car Chat / Re: Plod/MV6 ?
« on: 22 April 2014, 13:42:41 »
I've just been and checked my ex-plod springs for idents. Have only found the part number 700852

IMO they're not GM springs at all - fitted instead by MSD in the UK. There's no way that GM would have signed off springs so far outside the norm - with no load on board, they jacked up the rear of the car so much that there wasn't much suspension travel before the damper hit the bump stops.

Omega General Help / auto box diagnosis required

can anyone tell me what's likely to be wrong with this.......

2.6 Omega B auto estate Elite. 2002

On first start-up, when selecting "D", all of the selector quadrant light illuminate and I only have 3rd gear and reverse.

"TC" lamp and spanner-thru-car lamp illuminated.

MIL and gearbox lamps not illuminated

gears 1 thru 4 available using manual hold-down.

"Sport" and "Winter" modes not available

once on the move using manual hold-down and placed into "D", the quadrant lights are not illuminated.

Engine ECU fault code is "service transmission soon"

transmission fault codes are not accessible ("can't access ecu" message returned from code-reader)

Powersounder just removed as it went haywire

two gallons of water liberated from the air inlet plenum for the heater (yes it was completely full)
