Cars for Sale & wanted / 1999 2.5 Elite Saloon for sale
« on: 21 July 2020, 14:09:08 »
Greetings everyone

Sadly it is time to part with my July 1999 (mini facelift) Omega 2.5V6 Elite which has been my daily driver since 2003. Two owners from new.  I know, I know, I will probably regret it further down the line.

She has covered 223,864 miles, most of them by me, and has been serviced regularly by me (and in the early days by some of the members on here) inc cambelt, gearbox/engine oil etc. Taken off the road last November and is currently on SORN.  The last MOT only bought up two advisories both front ns/os wheel arch brake pipes having some corrosion on.  There is some rust blistering on the front ns wheel arch and the chrome trim insert in the os rear bumper corner is bent so will need re straightening. Exhaust was replaced last year as were the front wishbones.  Still have the original ones as I planned to re-bush them and put them back on but never got round to it.  I also have an new coil pack that I was going to fit and I have the required locking kit for cambelt changes

The engine runs and still pulls like a train, gearbox kickdown is good and all the electrics work with the exception of the front passenger seat heating.  Switch on the dash works but the seat won’t warm up and there is a bulb out on the passenger climate control switch.  The full leather interior is in excellent condition.

A short walkround video of the car can be found here  https://youtu.be/Vd9BRQymtHw

Anyone interested in saving her?  PM me
Offers around £800 pls

Omega General Help / Door won't close/latch
« on: 04 January 2016, 19:10:21 »
Greetings,

looking for a quick easy fix for this problem (trying to avoid stripping the door down)  The drivers door on my Omega won't latch. When you try to close it just "bounces" off the rubbers. I have checked the little black cam in the lock mechansim and it is fine, doesn't impeed the closing. It did this a couple of weeks ago and after a couple of tries it closed, but now won't. Have checked the outside door handle and there is resistance, but, when you move the little black cam round it is supposed to lock and be released by lifting the handle, it doesn't lock in place.

Hope that makes sense.

Anyone out there got any brainwaves

Best wishes and a Happy New year

Omega General Help / Advice needed on persistant coolant loss
« on: 08 February 2015, 15:29:58 »
I have been chasing a coolant loss problem for some time. Current rate of loss is from correct level to coolant low light, one week.

I have changed the HBV, Radiator and the water pump (which was showing some signs of the seal leaking) slight improvement, but still losing coolant.

I have also changed the thermostat, O ring (also showing signs of seal leaking) and transfer pipe O rings  no improvement in loss.  I have checked all the coolant hoses and unions, no signs of any leaks.  There are no signs of any leaking fluid on the ground or around the engine.   Have also checked the expansion tank, no signs of any leaking. No oil residue in the expansion tank and no signs of water (emulsion) in the oil, other than some on underside of cap.  But this is no more than usual as wife does short journeys, and not present on longer runs.

Also checked inside cabin, all dry no signs of water leaking from the heater matrix.

I am at a loss as to what to do next.  Any ideas??

Roland

Also have a slight knocking noise from under a cam cover, which sounds like a sticking hydraulic lifter.  Is Forte Top end treatment any good for unsticking it?

Omega General Help / Leaking water pump
« on: 19 January 2015, 17:14:27 »
Hello,  I appear to have a leaking water pump.  Need to know if it is possible to remove/change it without going having to go as far as removing the timing cover?

Omega General Help / Help with part identification
« on: 13 October 2014, 21:45:16 »
Sorry I don't have a picture of the part but I will do my best to describe it.  My car is a mini facelift 2.5 V6 '99 Elite saloon.

The part looks a little like a flying saucer and sits on the top of the right side of the radiator.  It has a hose that goes to the secondary air pump and has a small rubber 90deg hose from the top edge to a short, hard plastic vacuum hose to another short small rubber hose.

First question,      what is this part and what does it do.
On mine the short rubber 90deg hose that has the vac hose in, has perished where it goes into the main body of the part.  What effect will this have? Can I live without it ? does it need to be replaced?

Hope that made sense.   :)

Omega General Help / Changing rear brake lines Advice needed
« on: 03 October 2014, 18:43:02 »
I am replacing the rear brake lines, caliper to flexi hose.  As a precaution I have also decided to have a set of rear flexi hoses ready just in case these need replacing as well.  Went to my local motor factors and collected two rear hoses, they have given me one hose which has female connectors at both ends and one hose with female one end and male the other.  They are adamant that this is correct but I'm not sure.  All the pictures I've seen have been hoses with female ends. Which is the correct type I need? Or doesn't it matter?

Also have been looking at the PAS fluid and thought I might change it.  How is this done as can't see any "how to" in the maintenance section.

Any advice gratefully received.

Omega General Help / Auto Gearbox Question (AR35)
« on: 15 September 2014, 16:17:59 »
I am planning to change the gearbox fluid.  Both guides in maintenance section say to use Dextron 3.  However, when I contacted the local Vaux Dealer they said they have Dextron 3 in Semi and Fully synthetic, Which do I need Semi or Full .  My main engine oil changes are done with Semi Synth oil.  So I'm guessing I need Dextron 3 Semi, is that correct?   :-\

Any guidance gratefully received.

Roland.

PS They did suggest I use Dextron 6 (latest), but were unable to tell me whether it was Semi or Full   ::)

Omega General Help / Advice needed
« on: 16 July 2014, 21:07:08 »
Hello,  I need you all to get your collective brains round this.

I have just changed the HBV on my Omega, ran the engine to test all was ok, when I noticed some water dripping (quite quickly) from under the car towards back of engine.  I checked the HBV clamps, all ok no leaks, no issues put a little too much in expansion tank when topped up. Other than that no issues

On investigation under the car the dripping is coming from two drain tubes, One is next to the gear selector and the other is directly opposite on other side of gearbox (auto), the dripping is warm water.  Checked for warning lights, nothing (very chilly in car, switched off air con).  Got back under car dripping slowed, switched air con back on dripping got faster.  So issue appears to be air con related.

Now, I know that under normal working air con will produce excess water, that needs to go some where.  And previously I have notice a light dripping under car.  However I have never seen it drip so much, is this because the weather is so hot and the air con is having to work harder??       :-\ :-\ :-\

Any reassurance would be gratefully received   :)

Omega General Help / Door Mirror (mini facelift)
« on: 17 April 2014, 22:06:42 »
Greetings again,

can someone enlighten me as to how you get the painted cover of a MF door mirror.  I have tried using the technique described in the maintenance how to, but that relates to a facelift model, either I doing it wrong (don't want to apply too much pressure and break the glass) or there is another way.

Ideas?  :-\

Omega General Help / Rear boot spoiler Removal
« on: 12 April 2014, 15:55:33 »
How does it come off?

There is a small screw either end of the spoiler (accessible via the boot lid).  These have been removed but spoiler won't budge. Is it held on with clips and tape (like the black door strips) or is it just bonded on?   :-\

Omega General Help / Plastic Sill covers
« on: 11 April 2014, 18:05:37 »
Greetings all,

Question about the plastic sill covers.    At the rear end they appear to be held by two push pin grommets. Down the length they have round plastic grommets with metal in the middle? and can't see any fastenings at the front end.  I need to remove them but am not sure how clips down the length come out and how the front end is freed.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.  :)

Omega General Help / Door removal
« on: 06 April 2014, 15:20:34 »
Hi Guys n Gals,

Had a look in maintenance guide and can't see a how too.

So, what's the easiest way to remove a door hinge pin?.  Haynes says Vauxhall use a special tool to drift out.  And once removed can they be re-used..
