Heating issue

Having some issues with the heating.  MFL '00.  Front cabin space on both driver and passenger side blowing cold air.  Rear seat blowers working fine.

Thus:
- not matrix
- not HBV/vacum related

Tried:
- reseting climate, no joy.

Possibilities:
- sampler fan (but wouldn't this affect rear cabin too?)
- servo for front heat FUBARred

Thoughts?

Could be but never had to deal with one.

Anyone have any photos I can use or is it a dash off job?  :'(

Heater is split left/right not front/back... either airlock, stat issue, or partially blocked matrix...  :-\

What is temp gauge doing?

What system does it have? Climate/Digital climate/manual control/aircon...

I still have issue of cooler air from rear vents on the 3.2, warm from front. But a damn good flushing of heater matrix solved most of the issues, to the point of red hot at times.

Have you run system up to temp, with cap off, burping any air out?

Has been reported before.

In fact, I think I looked at this very car, putting two and two together... ::)

I'm guessing it's the blending flaps come adrift each side. IIRC, I tech2'ed the climate panel and couldn't find anything obviously amiss with the sensors and there isn't a sampling fan on the FL, IIRC.

I think you can just about get to the blending flap linkages by reaching up from the footwells, without removing the whole dash.

Yes, has the FL Climate panel.

I will have to see if I can get my bear paws up in to the area.  Is it better drivers or passengers side?  ISTR that the pipes come down the driver's side and thus from the passenger side it might be best. (just trying to avoid the inevitabel swelling from the uticaria as possible)

Similar issue here since changing the water pump, where the rear vents blows cool air while the front blows warm on the sides and hot in the centre can also hear some gurgling around the radio area. Probably an air lock as was perfectly fine before just haven't got round to sorting it... Might have to lift a finger now it's getting cold  :o ;D

That helps a lot.  But upon reading I notice that these issues relate to one side blowing warm and the other not.  Mine is the entire front cabin, but the back is ok.  I shall check anyhow :y

When I flushed my heater matrix it was quite clear, but did help with cabin heat  :y

I did, when I flushed it within an inch of it's life.  That said, I did not put much pressure down the matrix pipes for lack of a suitable hose setup chez Guff.  I might have to give that a whirl tomorrow morning.

I just disconnect the other end of the hose and a copper pipe reducer to connect it to the hose.  Then it's 3 Bar of flushing :)


I made some plugs to go in the HBV/engine end of the heater hoses with Hozelock threads on them. A couple of standard connectors  mean you can swap the supply and drain hoses around in seconds, which makes flushing the matrix much more effective. It also removes the need to mess around under the scuttle.

Just to update on this. Got some spare time today and as I am spearfishing tomorrow I will definitely need the hear working.

It was the control arms.  Quite fiddly for my bear paws but I loosened the t20 torn without removing them to help get the right angle and purchase.  Switching to low on the climate helped too.

Thanks everyone for your input.  As always humbled by the support here.
