Another notch on the bedpost
« on: 06 February 2012, 17:31:05 »

Another car gone.  This time, Mrs TheBoy's beloved Rover.

Some of this next paragraph is taken from other witnesses.

Driving home from work on Thursday, quite sedately as it happens (there was my mistake!), I'm slowing down for the roundabout at the end of a decent stretch of dual carriageway. I'm on the inside lane, which is queuing, as it usually does at rush hour, with the outside lane moving reasonably well. I join the back of the queue, I'm over on the centre line as its just about to go to 3 lanes for the roundabout, with middle lane being straight on. My lane. According to the lady 2 cars back, the car following me looked like she was going to go up the inside lane to turn left (which makes sense, given her address), but for some reason doesn't see I'm stopped. Hits me on NSR fairly hard - enough for spin me through 90 degrees, clipping the car in front in the process, and across the outside lane into the central reservation. Inevitably, the car coming down the outside lane had nowhere to go, except into the side of me.

End result, the Rover is clearly written off - damage to every panel except passenger door, possibly NSF wing. The car in front of me that I clipped will get away with rear bumper hopefully - I wasn't even aware I'd hit that on way through, but her bumper has damage on it, and I have scars on my NSF corner. The car who hit me in the outside lane, that is going to need a front end, and the car that hit me up the rear is going to need a bit more of a front end, inc radiator.  1 car was driven away, the other 3 recovered.

Police breath tested everyone, AFAIK, everyone passed. My reading was 0.0 apparently. What a good boy.

Paramedics called, as the woman who hit me was clearly in shock, and turns out may have broken or severly dislocated a finger, other than that, no serious injuries. Thankfully.  My aches and pains are subsiding, and my strange memory issues becoming far less frequent.

The Rover, however, will never recover. I bought it brand new back in 2000, and its been loved and cared for ever since, and you would never believed it had over 116k under its belt. Yes, it had let us down - a fuel pump failure, and the obligatory K series HGF - but has been a dependable, enjoyable, comfortable, reliable workhorse.  And in its last breath, protected me.

I don't get that emotionally attached to cars. Yes, I tend to keep the good ones for a long time, but very really emotinal about them. But I really will truely miss the Rover.  The longest I've ever owned a car, both time and mileage, and I would say, for the purpose it fulfilled, the best car I've ever had.

RIP my little Rover.

As long as you're ok TB, the car can be replaced.  Love to Mrs TB too, know she's gutted as well as being relieved.  :-* :-*

Glad your back to posting again, hard luck on it.

I know Mrs TB is upset too.

Still, the fun of a new car to choose again....

turned it down, couldn't be arsed to deal with the extra hassle. Got 2 perfectly good Omegas on the drive.  The Rover was always happy to kiss the redline, unless I hadn't driven it for a few weeks ::)

Your OK, that's the main thing.

But yes, it's funny how you get attached to a car, when I did my dancing on ice appearance in my first 3.2 I was absolutely gutted. Still yet to see another 3.2 that is in as good (post accident!) condition IMHO. Certainly the current 3.2 has took a lot of money to get it close....

Really sorry to hear this, Jaime, and I hope the aches and pains heal quickly. :(

Sounds like another distracted driver who didn't even see the accident coming from the shock diagnosis. What a shame the car didn't make it. :'(

Don't rush things and I hope you've been and let a doctor check you over?

Indeed... You must have injuries logged. My father had a similar amount of damage in an accident (nearly wrote off a brand new car :o) that was not his fault and the injuries are still causing issues now, 2 years on!

I don't normally encourage injury claims but you will have whiplash and potentially more :o You must have them checked and logged as this is a situation that a claim is justified IMO ;)

Just make sure you don't mention your fear lack of attendance at medical institutions or they may want to give you a full medical, and you're of an age where he'll want to stick a finger up your bum :o :o ;D ;D

Oh dear, sorry to learn of your misfortune and your loss of a much revered motor
As has been already said many times you hopefully escaped serious injury along with the rest (seriously have those checks done)
Better your chassis escaped intact even at the expence of your Rover's :y

it wasn't intended to be....
it was very much tongue in cheek ,  intended to suggest someone take note of the long term issues related to neck injuries....   of which i am acutely , permanently,  painfully, intimately  aware........

i'll put down my shovel and step away from the hole......     hopefully before i get shoved in.....

I'll echo the above, glad to hear you are all right  :y

Sounds like quite a bad smash, side impact must have been a shock.  :o

I'm imagining the roundabouts at Towcester, at a guess the BP/MacD's one?  :-\

I'm still attached to my old 2.2, hence its still here. It will come in useful one day!

Edit: If you want sympathy it's in the dictionary between s41t and syphilis ;D Go and seek proper medical advice and I'll be sympathetic ;)

There is talk that my breaked up brain poor memory may be from headbutting a set of traffic lights after being vaulted off a KH 250 in 1976. :D ;D ;D
If TB gets out of bed one morning and realises his head has stayed on the pillow then he can assume it really was something more serious. :y :D

That's no real surprise from your description. May have been a Cat A if you had registered your injuries ;), although that is generally reserved for fatalities

Glad your ok M8  :y that is the most important thing after all  :)

Can say it is easy to get attached to cars, Ive had 37 cars and honestly most of em I was quite fond of, Only remember a few being really gutted too move on from, one was an old VX Ventura 3.3 was in A1 condition, Im sure I could have eaten my dinner off the floor, it was so clean, lent it too a M8 for a few days as his car packed up and he had a new job, seems the ciggy lighter thing blew a fuse and so he put a self tapping screw in the carrier  :o of course it caught light and that was the end of me VX   :( :(    turns out he hadnt got a full license so I couldnt claim on the insurance  :'(  as he was me best man at my wedding I just left it, sad though.

was sad when me Omega  2.5 cdx went to the scappy, but got a new one now so all ok in the end, Im sure that will happen, and you wonder what all the fuss was about lol  :y

ps, we like pics  :y :y
