Fitted a new (pattern) cam sensor on the BMW.  :)

Hopefully I won't be sitting around in anymore supermarket car parks, waiting for it cool down so I can start it!  ::)

Fitted a new drive shaft to SWMBOs Galaxy   :(

The last three big trips we have done in it have resulted in either limping hundreds of miles home to Cornwall or calling the AA for a ride on a lorry  >:(

1st trip it was the injector wiring loom in the cylinder head. Poxy design leaves too much unsupported wire flapping around in the cylinder head and the push on spade connector to injector number one loses contact. Driving at night on 3 cylinders we got home but I had to miss work to fix it afterwards  :(

2nd trip it boiled on the M25. AA stuck it on a lorry and gave as a hire car to get home. Missed more work replacing the water pump but I am not convinced that I found the problem even though it hasn't done it since.

3rd trip had us limping along with a CV joint shaking violently whenever a sniff of throttle was applied. 7 hour journey with 2 screaming toddlers and a car that I don't have faith in was not a nice combination. :(

If it goes into limp occasionally you'll know the cause,I bought my 5 series as a scrapper as previous owner had fitted loads of new parts which were crap, namely crank and maff sensors,it actually ran better with maff disconnected until I fitted a good one :y

Buggered it again.

Actually, I didn't break it, I found it broken, I suspect by the expensive "specialist" who last worked on it :(

Collected some service bits from Mercedes and had them price up the clutch pedal components in order to replace all the worn out plastic bits on the current one... Pedal still sticks down occasionally so clearly the pivot and pedal return parts are past their best.

Came to a reasonable £31 including the pedal itself... :D so promptly ordered them.

Ignoring the problem of the fact the cars are crap, their dealer parts prices I've always found more than reasonable normally.

I've got the original and a couple of screwdrivers tucked away in the boot just in case Henry.  So far so good though, I've done lots of running around today and driven 125 miles home from South Wales and all good so far!  :y

I didn't give it to someone else to do this, it was done by previous owner. Well, the Jag Specialist he used. Only jobs I've shipped out to "professionals" in recent times is tyres and that wheel bearing that I really felt was beyond me partly due to lack of tools.

I distrust garages too much to do most jobs, and there is only one way of knowing its done right ;)

Occasionally, I do have to ask for the help of grown ups from OOF members and ex-members :y

Its simply a split dust cover on the calliper piston. But they are not available from dealer, and the docs clearly state when that happens, the whole calliper has to be replaced :(

As there are plenty of exchange ones available, repair kits must be available.  And a colleague you used to work in the trade has just identified one :y

£10 is cheaper than £280 ;D
