My door keeps popping open while driving,  inspection reveals the coating on the latch rotor piece has failed and become shredded ,  making the latch unreliable….    so a replacement is required.

anyone ?

changed alternator……   now getting ,  consistently,   about 5mpg more out of the beast…..

seriously…..  wales,  the week before last,  pre alternator…     M6-A55 stuff…  ,   23.8 mpg round trip average. only light load on board…   (wife daughter and a suitcase)

Brighton,  this bank holiday weekend   (for work :(  )  ,  29.1 round trip MPG

less than £50 to brighton and back…..    with a full load on board, (couple hundred kg of tools and ladders and stuff) and not driving like miss daisy.

Flippin nora…..  and given the fuel economy over the last year…..  wondering how long the alternator has been dragging it down…..

mechanic looking at car tomorrow….   suspect the alternator bearings……    asking here in case anyone has a v6 alternator handy ????   just in case…..

Omega General Help / nasty, LOUD whining/whirring sound
« on: 05 August 2014, 15:01:56 »
got back from north wales sunday night,   as we came in to the village, with window open, realised the mv6 was making a fair bit of noise…

if i had to make an educated guess, i'd say it sounded bearing related.., and i think it's on the left side (as viewed from the front)

so any bets as to what it is ?   it's loud, varies directly with engine speed,   irrespective of what the gearbox is doing….  (whether stationary in neutral, in reverse, or going forwards in drive)  almost sounds like a big turbo on it;s last legs (that whistley whining sound they make  )

Got another leak , suspect the top hose , as it's on that side at the front , pooling in cross member thingy under front of pulley area , seems to be done moisture under hose around the loom there .
Need fast posting ;)
Don't want to pull the thing off to inspect without another to hand to replace with !

It seems , from the small cloud of escaping steam, and the minor drip, that the Mv6 has a bloody coolant leak.....  no advisory on it from MOT this morning....

anyone local available to give me a hand finding it and fixing it in the next day or so ?

26
james did sterling work as always ,  sorted my cam belt, and drive belt and tensioner, and hopefully the leaky crank sensor...   + the oil change and coolant change...

checked wiring on O2 sensor.... looks like a new sensor might be in order....    but will wait to see if EML comes back on...

now then....

time to break out your best "i told you so " paraphrases .

the Jag....    developed a bit of a coolant leak,  initially thought it was just a cracked hose spigot from the expansion tank, failed because some numpty put the hose clip on the wrong way up and it fouled the bonnet liner....    so replaced it,  reversed the clip ,  and away we went....   however, it still lost coolant....

from the strong whiff of exhaust in the coolant tank,...   it's probably safe to suggest the head gasket is fubarred.    very disappointed....  is an understatement....   it's a lovely drive,  and very pretty, i WAS really happy with it.....    but the problems that have surfaced in the last couple of weeks have really stuffed me ....

headgasket....
oil leak underneath....  might be sump gasket,  might be end seal...
possible transfer case seal (this is critical, the thing only holds 600ml of fluid.... and if it runs dry it's dead in short order... )

and minor irritation.... a blockage in fuel filler....  filling it up takes about 20 minutes..... didn't discover this immediately,  as it came with a  full to the brim tank of fuel...

going to get quote from local jag dealer in the morning.....   and take it up with selling dealer , followed by trading standards, and a lawyer.

i was told there was a warranty.....     but when i called said warranty company,  they said there was never a warranty issued on it.....

and now , i can't get a response on the phone from the dealer,  nor does google turn up any information about him....

in other words, the git lied , took my money and laughed....

so back in the mv6 i go.....  hoping james's discovery of the timing being out , and fixing it,  might improve the fuel consumption....

are there any brands that are considered "okay if you must and money is tight" ?

for example.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/D3400-DRIVE-FAN-BELT-TENSIONER-KIT-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-3-2-V6-EST-01-04-/370872070806?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AVauxhall%7CModel%3AOmega%7CCars+Type%3A3.2+V6&hash=item5659b2b296

i'm just looking to get the Mv6 fully sorted for the short term.....

so i've spotted cam belt kits,  aux drive belt and tensioner kits...

amongst other things....

one thing i won't skimp on is the crank sensor.....   that story i know too well.....

but money is very very tight.....       so.....

is it just my iPhone dying,  or has Orange/EE's 3G service gone tits up recently???    where i've previously had full bar 3G ,  (for example sainsbury's on the ring road),  or the top floor of our house,  i now have none....  been like that for several days.....

bit of an arse when i need to use internet banking to check funds  before putting fuel in.....   (i keep the card account i carry deliberately short on funds in case of loss or theft or fraud,   and only transfer funds in when i know i'm going to need them)

Cars for Sale & wanted / 3.2 mv6 auto estate 2001
« on: 25 August 2013, 12:25:23 »
156k miles
silver.

£750

taxed till end of may 2014
MOT TO OCT 5th 2013

running,  (new HBV fitted)
with a half tank of unleaded

very clean body work,   no rust on doors,  etc....     only a bit on the tailgate,  (not much)  and a couple of surface scrapes on rear bumper.

good clean (original)  leather interior, with load cover and luggage net/dog guard.

NCDC 2013 , sat nav,, etc all working. with spare changer cart.

 the usual cruise control etc,

relatively recent bits

all new OE shortened (lowered chassis) Mv6 Shocks,   new rear OE shortened Mv6 springs,   front wishbones, roll bar bushes & drop links,   new brake pads all round, cam cover gaskets done,

pre-cat sensor move done...

bad bits,

will need 1 tyre (rear nearside) and an O2 sensor for MOT ,  (EML on, only code stored is for heater circuit open circuit on left secondary O2 sensor)

could maybe use a new crank sensor ,  as there's a slight oil leak from around it,  presumably there's some sort of seal ring or something on the assembly that's failed.

aircon compressor bearings suspect,  and aircon needs regassing.

HID headlights could use a sand and polish. (but are fully functional)

essentially see previous advert.......      but i've done the HBV so it actually drives......

assorted pictures....  some recent , some not so recent,   it still washes and polishes up as good as in any of them,.
