Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: Breaking 3.2 Elite Saloon
« on: 01 August 2020, 21:05:03 »
Hello

Couple of questions!

What's the general condition of the rear bumper? Not worried about light scratches etc as would need to be resprayed correct colour.

How leak free and noisy is the diff?
Bumper is scratched but not cracked as far as I can tell, and has reversing sensors if you want them or I'll keep them, but then there will be holes in it :-\
Diff is surprisingly dry as far as I remember. I have only driven it up and down outside the factory, so can't tell much, but it seemed ok, and not limited slip otherwise I'd be keeping it ;) I'll post up more pictures as soon as I can.

Also the problem seams to be coming from the rear/Diff which makes me think it could be the prop bearing

fitting refurbished diff mounts made my car a lot quieter.

Slightly OT but regarding the above. Did you refurb them yourself? I understand that the mounts are no longer available and that too hard a Poly bush can make noises worse. I think I need to do mine to cure slight rear end rumble and tighten up the rear steering bump steer wandering, so I am interested in any feedback.

Would argon work? We've got loads of that, I imagine so long as it is bottled, inert and doesn't contain moisture, it should be OK?

Flat spots on the tyres :-\
Having stood for a long time, tyres can cause awful shaking as the carcass gets mis-shappen.  Pump them up to 50psi and see if it helps with the vibration, then let them down again.

No it’s the one with the silver bulge in and a tyre valve you can tell it’s a shrader valve type, as the high pressure hose has a valve which has a nut fitting on it👍
OK,  again, assuming I don't need it as a spare for my red MV6 to get the A/C working and it holds pressure, then yes I'll probably sell it.  It might be September before we get all the pipes out...

Did the flywheel go back on straight?  You're not too far away from me (and other members too) if it was ok to bring it up to South Northants for a look see.  Bit difficult to diagnose via the forum.
I'd jack the back end up on a ramp and run it in gear to try and rule a few things out like prop centre mount etc..Don't give up yet!

Finally have got a copy of TIS running on a virtual machine so we can see the circuit diagrams. The climate control is a pretty complex system, which we are now trying to figure out. Then we can hopefully find out which bits aren't working. Fingers crossed one of the spare parts from the Elite we're breaking may come in handy, or we can find a leak somewhere.

Has the breaker got a low pressure pipe that you will sell?
Probably, if I don't need it myself and it's in one piece.  Let me know which is the low pressure pipe, is it the one that goes under the battery tray on the nearside chassis rail?

With the help of a UV lamp and yellow glasses, there is evidence of a leak from the condensor where is joins the pipework (despite passing the vac test >:(), so the rad and coolant with have to come out again and another new seal located and fitted. Let's hope that fixes it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have borrowed a UV lamp to check for leaks tomorrow. If it's not genuinely low pressure then I think we've isolated it to the pressure switch, which is a new Delphi one.  I had hoped that perhaps a Tech 2 might have been able to test some of the other inputs.  We temporarily looped the pressure switch, and the clutch engages when AC is switched on from the dash.
The TIS diagrams have helped to understand what all the inputs are.
