Omega General Help / Manual gear knob removal

I've searched the forum and found loads of posts asking the question, but no actual answer to the brain-teaser that is 'how do you remove an Omega's manual gear knob if you want to replace it with an aftermarket/Irmscher item?'

Any ideas?  :-\

Aha! Serek's old car. I've always wondered, does it (did it) have a Meister-R sticker on the boot because the car is making use of the company's suspension components? Meister-R springs or dampers? Seems an odd choice tbh.

Pretty sure I have a load of Dextron II on the shelf, so will probably stick with that.

In other news, the bungs arrived from Vauxhall. I bought two of them (one for the level check/filler aperture, one for the drain plug). I also bought the magnets that go inside them, primarily because my local main dealer parts desk operative told me that they needed to be ordered separately. Contrary to this advice, the bungs arrived fitted with brand new magnets.

6
Magnets and are inserts sold separately, but also readily available.  :y

7
Readily available from Vauxhall. Job's a good 'un.

I've got a couple of magnets from autoboxes, ring type if ones any use. Have you considered screwing a spark plug in like someone had done on an old motor of mine  ;D

 ;D ;D ;D

I checked again, and I was right - the manual gearbox inspection and drain plugs are significantly bigger than the sump oil drain plug.

9
I bought a magnetic sump plug in the hope of that doing the trick, but the thread is much smaller on the new part. I'll have another look, perhaps I've been sent the wrong part...

Anybody got a spare gearbox drain plug with magnet going spare? I had to force off my R28 manual transmission's bung with a chisel!

I ad an OE spring snap on my Elite a few years back. Not cool.

VXR8s were surprisingly well represented at the show, although none were as striking as your "snot green" example, Ken! :P

I'd let my spare set go for the right price...
