Wots MHD?

The one that Andy B told me to avoid ;D "Micro Hybrid Drive" - basically they removed the starter motor and use the alternator as a motor to start the engine, for reasons known only to Mercedes.

The alternator then falls off from the strain and takes the water pump drive and engine with it.

MHD is actually a stop/start setup.

Many of the Mercs use a conventional starter for cold start and then a hybrid alternator for the stop start function.....on the Smart they got rid of the starter and made the alternator do the cold cranking to......and it didn't like it!

The little 84hp turbo is surprisingly nippy though.. if L doesn't like it, I might nick it off her ;D

Helped a mate out fixing his boot release button.

Two problems with that:

1) It's an electrical issue.
2) The car's a french shitbox.  >:(

A wire in the loom had given way in the flexible link between door and body. No problem - there were several unused wires in the bundle, so I swapped it to one of those (I know!).
That wire was also breaked, it turned out. >:(
Eventually used one of the knackered wires to pull a new one through. ::)

Thanks, Aaron. Sounds perfectly logical to me. I'm surprised they never got rid of the steering wheel too. With it being so small, you could just lean over in your seat to make it go round corners.
I shall write to Mercedes explaining my idea.  :)

I drove a mates MHD model for a few days about 8 years ago.

Around town it was pretty good, on a run it was a hateful pile of shit.....but the big issue was always build and reliability

Were do you think low mileage ex-demonstrator come from,  use to be a few ex- company Vauxhall's on here.

Also a way to pervert the sales/registration figures.

Got inlet manifold back off as start of hunt for water leak since recent oil cooler change.First glance it appears to be coming from where the oil cooler pokes up through cooler plate[the rear one]if this is the case I figure either the rubber "O" ring somehow came off the fitting as I put the cover plate on[don't see how that'd have happened]or-and this could be very likely-as I used the front one to pull cooler into position to put big nut on rear fitting I didn't tighten it fully before fitting the front one and cooler pipes :-[ Investigations will continue on Thursday evening or at the weekend. ::)

Also used for proving, mine currently has a suite of unreleased NGI software on-board
