Omega General Help / Cabin pollen filter housing pre facelift
« on: 26 June 2022, 12:31:08 »
Hi
Can anyone tell me how to remove the complete filter housing under the scuttle on a 1995 Omega?  As it is off the road at the moment, having some TLC. I have tried to clean the years of crap, around the housing. So I can get in and attack any rust hidden, reseal any joints and repaint.  All searches show two nuts, accessed from the scuttle area, but they are not on mine. Does the Glove box have to come out to access the bolts or nuts?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / Failed on emissions again.
« on: 14 April 2022, 22:34:30 »
Well took the wifes 1995 2.0ltr 16v Omega, for its yearly MOT. And again it failed on the CO on fast idle test. And just scraped through on idle test.

It went through last year, just scraping through on the fast idle, but idle test was really low. I changed the exhaust from down pipe to back box, including a type approved cat. I changed ECT sensor, genuine NGK Titania O2 sensor, that was checked directly with NGK, to make sure I had the correct one, thermostat and other parts, as suggested on here the year before.

Here is the link to the conversation. https://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=145812.msg1921223#msg1921223.

The CO is well out of range, this year. As can be seen by the fail sheet. I took the car, the long way round to the MOT place. And it was hot, when I got to the place. Fan also cut in just as he was about to test emissions. As you can see he tried the test twice, with no luck.

I did some live data, a few minutes after I got home. So car wasn't cold, fan did cut in as I was recording the data.  Can anyone point me, to what could be causing this problem?

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BEAYkCx-ps0gppKL93MeB02rre7HWO3c/view?usp=sharing.

The one thing I did notice, but it seems to have always done it, is that it goes from closed to open loop, as the O2 sensor voltage changes. I don't know if it is, the thing that cannot be mentioned to I used to get the live data? But the voltage fluctuates up and down quite quickly.  There is also a smell of petrol from the exhaust, when on tick over.

Thanks in advance for all help.

Omega General Help / EP90 Diff Oil
« on: 15 March 2022, 14:59:12 »
Sorry to bother everyone. The wifes car has developed a noise in the back, that seems to be similar to how some old roof racks sounded when driving, similar to a Droning noise, that starts around 30mph and gets louder as you increase speed.  I have swapped known good tyres off mine, onto the back to eliminate tyre noise.

I have ordered two bearing kits, just incase, but was going to check fluid level in diff first, but wandered if this is the stuff I need to top it up?

Omega General Help / Fuel pump gaskets
« on: 02 March 2022, 12:04:22 »
Can anyone tell me please, if the gasket under the plate for the fuel pump and the one on the locking piece, can be reused? The wifes Estate Omega smells of petrol. When switched off. She hasn't overfilled it, as I asked. Fuel cap is ok and the seals inside the filler area look OK. I have looked under the inspection plate. The top of the fuel pump plate, with the two outlets is dry. So was going to check underneath the plate, incase the pipes have rotted. (I hope not, only found one replacement, so far and it is stupid money.)

If the pipes are OK is there anywhere else I can look? The smell is definately from the back of the car.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / Front brake caliper
« on: 25 February 2022, 12:24:19 »
Hi

I am sure it is somewhere but, I cann't find the post about front brake calipers.   Passenger side the piston has frozen. Undid the hose and it made no difference, it had still locked the disc. I cann't see the reference number on mine.

Would these calipers fit my 2002 2.6 Auto saloon?

Omega General Help / Steering is light
« on: 20 February 2022, 09:09:40 »
Hi
I was wandering if anyone can help?  The steering on my Omega, seems to be light. The only way I can describe it, is as if I am towing a trailer that is pulling the back end down, which lifts the front up. I have replaced all the suspension parts on the front. Front coils and Shocks, with new bushes etc for the top. Also changed steering idler, with new Lemforder. Also had to change both track rods and the middle steering link. All these parts were Lemforder. These were done for as failed on MOT.  Changed back suspension aswell, when I did front shocks and coils. I had a basic front tracking done, as the wheel alignment was way out, after doing all the front work. It will be going for a full geometry setup, once can get to bottom of steering. The car does drive straight now, even with hands lightly on steering wheel. Before all this GastronomicKleptomaniac, drove it and commented on how nice it was to drive. Steering fluid is new and too level. The one steering pipe across the front of the car, leaked near the compression joint, drivers side, so dumped all the old fluid. I fixed the connection with a new joint, filled up power steering reservoir and bled all air out of system. Tyre pressures are correct, also they are same ones that were on the car, before the work. And I had no problems with steering lightness.

Is there anything I can check, that could be causing the lightness.

Thanks in advance for any help.

General Car Chat / Omega passed MOT
« on: 01 February 2022, 16:05:17 »
My Omega, passed its MOT. Got some minor advisories that are not major.  Now got to get the tracking done, as had to change middle steering linkage, both trackrods, both wishbones and steering idler. The front shocks and coils were done for last year. No advisories for rust. Just done rust removal on front (had to make a new drivers side outrigger). Checked inside the front wheelarches and all seems OK, including the front part under the headlights. Now got to do the wifes 1995 Omega for its MOT in March.

Omega General Help / Exhaust manifold for a 2ltr 16v omega
« on: 28 November 2021, 08:51:38 »
Well along with my omega causing fun. I noticed that the manifold on the wifes omega, has a small hairline crack on the top of it.  I have found two new manifolds. The one is for no EGR and the other is for a car with EGR.  It also says it fits a 2.2 is it the same manifold for a 2ltr and a 2.2ltr? What I was wandering if I was to buy the one that is for no EGR, would it basicly be the same as blanking off the EGR, which I have been looking at doing due to age of the one on the car. And all the problems we have had with emissions. It also looks like it doesn't have the Secondary air system fittings on it, which I am also happy to delete as the pump is starting to make a noise.

This is says it fits a 2.0 16v and ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION!

This is says it fits a OPEL VAUXHALL OMEGA B 2.0 VECTRA B 1.8 2.0 ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITH EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION

Omega General Help / Power steering hoses.
« on: 18 November 2021, 17:30:51 »
I was wandering if anyone could help me? I am trying to find the code for the metal pipe, that goes across the front of the radiators, for the steering system. Mine has decided to leak. Also the ones on each side of it. I think I have found the one but not sure. My logic is that if the one I can see is gone, the others might be going. I have put some pictures to show the one I am looking for. The pictures are from drivers side.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / 2.6 steering assembly replacement
« on: 08 September 2021, 15:32:47 »
Hi

I was wandering if anyone can help?  I am updating my front steering parts, steering idler and replacing control arm bushes with polybushes. The question is, can the ball joints on the centre rod assembly be replaced, if so what are they called apart from ball joints or do you have to replace with a complete new one? If it has to be replaced complete apart from Lemforder has anyone had luck with any other make?

Recently replaced the front coils, shocks with new parts, also the track rods and drop links. But want to change the parts then get full geometry setup. Think I have found a place down the road from me, who setup expensive cars for track day etc. When I told them I wanted my Omega setup to the settings I have, not factory. They said no problem. Hopefully they are OK.

Thanks for any help.

Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction, of the correct brake pad locking pins for a 1995 2.0ltr 16v estate? I replaced the calipers for new ones, which are correct. Got genuine VX rear pads, but the kit I was told to get Mintex MBA1271, do not go right through to the other side of the caliper. The pins on the original caliper were, a flat head on the one end, with the other end tapered.

The other ones mentioned are Mintex MBA1266, but these don't even show as fitting a Omega.

Now got the back end sorted, bought correct handbrake shoe fitting pins, that lock into back plate, they went in no problems and shoes even stayed as should.

So got the back end sorted apart from the brake pins.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / 1995 rear brake back dust shield undo
« on: 11 August 2021, 22:22:15 »
Could anyone tell me, before I undo them. If the four female Torx Head bolts, allow the back plate dust shield, to move?  The reason I am asking is that, I am completely rebuilding the handbrake on the wifes 1995 Omega. The pins that are on it to hold the shoes, are the old type that twisted into the backing plate. The new ones come through the backing plate. I have read the modification Vauxhall did from the old style to the way the later style. Just want to confirm everything.  The Torx bolts I am on about can be seen, on the back plate and the new pin setup in the hub bearing guide.

Thanks in advance for any help.
