Tigra A (Corsa B) Fuel Issue. (LPG fine)
« on: 09 February 2013, 13:19:13 »

So the Tigra Tardis runaround decided to pack up today, currently working in London this weekend but luck would have it still runs sweet on LPG (1.4 16V '98)

Starts on Petrol then just dies, if I force start on LPG then fine, if I switch back to Petrol craps out again, petrol in the Tank, about 2/3 Gals, but never really gets filled to the brim due to LPG.

So my thinking is its pulled some crap out of the tank somehow, its priming the fuel pressure, I assume because it will start on Petrol, can also hear the Fuel Pump Humming for about 2 secs after it craps out (New noise).

Dont know much about these 1.4i, I take it only the one fuel pump at the back, any Fuel Filters hidden anywhere, cant see it being blocked injectors, well not all 4 at the same time.

Any other thoughts I should be considering?, cant do much with it at the moment due to workload but dont feel happy about driving around on LPG only.

Is it a factory LPG install?

Check for fuel pressure at the rail, if low suspect the fuel pump or filter :y

Too dark for head under the bonnet stuff, so just clipped the codes, coming up as O2 Sensor again, reckon that is an old code from last years mot, cant see that sensor causing the fuel issue.  :-\

Worth checking the fuel trims. If the LPG calibration is bad, it could have taken the trims so far out that it won't run properly on petrol. Could well be a fault with the petrol pump / filter / regulator, though, especially if you tend to run around on LPG with bu66er all petrol in the tank, as many of us do. :-[

ok checked the fuel rail valve today, just hissed out air, no 12v on fuel pump, assuming theres a fuse and relay somewhere, anyone know where on these, cant find them anywhere.

I don't know the Corsa/Tigra specifically, but if it's anything like the Omega & others then there'll be three things controlling power to the fuel pump; A fuse, a relay and the ECU (which will only energise the relay if it sees a signal from the crank sensor telling it the engine is turning) ..

Fuse 9 is the fuel pump, I think: http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/content/dam/Vauxhall/Europe/united_kingdom/nscwebsite/uk/00_Home/Owner_Services/Owners%20Owners%20Manuals/tigra/TigraOwnersManualJuly2008.pdf

If you can locate the fuel pump relay you can bridge it with a suitable jumper and make sure it still turns with 12V across it and that you get fuel at the fuel rail.

If the fuse and the relay check out then it's probably crank/cam sensor (whichever the Tigra uses) if you're getting 0V at the pump ;)

Ah, if the crank needs to be turning, then may have to go back a re measure my 12v again on the pump, was looking for 12v with just the Key in / Ing on. I thought the pump would prime with key in before cranking.  :-\

Still need to find the Fuse and Relay though, theve hidden it somewhere, it not in the usual places unless Im missing something. 98 year by the way.

The facelift Omega primes before cranking - but only briefly.. not sure the non-DBWs do based on something Kevin said elsewhere, so it's either/or on the Tigra I suppose.. sorry, hopefully someone who knows more will be along shortly  :-[
