Title: MY97 GLS 2000 16v
Post by: frostbite on 27 April 2016, 22:07:47
I bought this a couple of months ago to replace the volvo v70 which was bought to replace a 2.5cdx estate sadly written off

It has a full service history as was owned by  one family since 99 so really only 3 owners and garaged

It is not without its problems though
Sold with a cracked manifold, but 2 studs on cylinder 1 have sheared.
Rust bubbles on the rear arches but only starting to form
Rust spot on the rear drivers door
Tid not working properly
Assured it was serviced but wasn't

It is tidy,  it even has the original vx floor mats and the ac still works

I'm surprised how clean the 4banger is

Nice motor for the age of it, looks like it's been well looked after.

I serviced the motor and replaced the plug leads. I underestimated the lead size and can't refit the plug cover

I completely forgot that I had the new zorst manifold kit fresh from germany

Also I had the ac regassed and it's a lot colder, it also comes on quicker so it must have been low

I have bought a backbox from Poland, just waiting for it to turn up.
Hopefully it will sound like my old bmw and not raspy like an 8v cali

Done a small electrical mod a while ago but left it in the other omega which got scrapped

The auto shift lights,  I have changed them to light up jap style which may not be everybody's taste but they can be seen in the daylight

The position spots are all red,
P-D-3-2-1 are a warm white
R is red
N is green

It's not a great pictures but you can see the reflection

I had to buy hundreds of leds which aren't needed. If anyone wants some I'll post them free

Got some goodies for the car

First I received my parcel from Poland

(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc244/frstbte01/20160624_150433.jpg) (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/frstbte01/media/20160624_150433.jpg.html)
(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc244/frstbte01/20160624_150659.jpg) (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/frstbte01/media/20160624_150659.jpg.html)
Its fits perfectly in the cut out on the valence

Probably the only prefacelift with a third brake light
(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc244/frstbte01/20160624_150414.jpg) (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/frstbte01/media/20160624_150414.jpg.html)

Lastly I have had this opel badge for a long time,  it was originally for my 2.5 estate but it got written off,  then when I got the saloon I had to find the the 16v badge from the redtop cavalier/ cali and it's in perfect condition
But I may not put them on,  we'll see how I feel about it later

Fitted my P-reg with a MFL third brake light, but that's cool now there's two of us!  ;D

Always nice to see another PFL out there. And a very tidy one indeed. I'd ease off the badges, as they're wrong for the car (as you know) the chromed ones are very beautiful things, very reminiscent of 50s car badges.

Like the 'jap style LEDs' I'll mention the idea to my missus, who will hate the idea, and after a long discussion, as compromise I won't get the LEDs, but instead get some cushions.

Good stuff  :)

Well to be honest it has been debadged,  I think the only thing on the boot lid is vaux where the foam had gone hard,  shouldn't be too hard to remove

As my Tid doesn't work and it's not really a useful thing like the mfd,  I had been treated to a new satnav since I haven't had one since 2008. Swmbo bought it for fathers day,

I have fitted it to the canopy that over hangs the clock,  the radio has a clock and I wear a watch  :P

I have run the cable up behind the vents, I may hardwire it in one day

I was looking through the last mot and it said that the direction indicators were discoloured. So I bought some ring replacements

I guess these are well past their use by date

Thomas editor would be proud  :D

I was naughty on ebay the other day and going on from my alloy wheel thread I have bought a nice set of deep dishes. They are supposedly Dawin racing wheels. But IDK they are very light and are 17x8j et32 with a BBS style centre cap

So I just randomly found myself up in southport looking for a house to rent, before the journey I checked tire pressures and filled up with 99 momentum from tesco. Didnt think about oil or coolant but hey what can a steady 5hr trip do.  :o

Ok decided to see why it was sluggish manouvering in the road, be it parking or moving off with wheels fully locked.

Coolant was a tad low. Oil was about 200ml down and there was a pool of oil in the manifold  >:( probably the 200ml that was missing from the sump.

So cleaned the tb and soaked up the oil, filled the coolant and alls a good un

Fiddling with my fobs I noticed that it doesnt always lock the car let alone light the fob, so changed batteries and still nout.

So I opened it up.

(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc244/frstbte01/20160724_200004.jpg) (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/frstbte01/media/20160724_200004.jpg.html)

Found that there was a dry solder joint to the batt terminals

(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc244/frstbte01/20160724_200205.jpg) (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/frstbte01/media/20160724_200205.jpg.html)

So whipped out the iron and heated the pins

(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc244/frstbte01/20160724_203307.jpg) (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/frstbte01/media/20160724_203307.jpg.html)

Fixed and lights up perfectly. This wasnt as complex as fixing the abs ecu for the v70 which was a biatch to do

You can sticky this if there isnt already a fix for the fobs

Fitted cruise controll this morning from a v6 vectra and it works  :D

Had a scare with brake switch only being 2 pin.  The cable is long so had to loop it through the vacuum assist and under the wiper linkage back to the butterfly

I have just fitted a pure highway 300di, well yesterday afternoon.

Get this, I bought the 300di at a cost of £50 and the ruddy thing didnt include an aerial only a coax patch cable, the manual says the patch lead will not work in low strength areas or at all. So I had to buy a seperate digital coat hanger for an extra £30

 >:(

Plumbed it all in and it works a treat

Although I cant seem to find a decent spot for the controller, so I shoved it on the glovebox with the light removed

Got some new goodies ready for when I get the head replaced

And a new lick of paint for the cam cover, going with fords stratos silver and gloss black for the plug cover ( found a way to fit the big leads under the cover without bending)

Got some new rims from Nigel (omega52)

They need a refubish but are perfect for now, had the boots off the deepdish (I dont think I even put 100miles on them)

It has now stopped pulling to the right and sticks to the road

Need to colour code the mirror covers and possibly look for a foglight bumper

I had a bit of hesitation and stalling on full lock while reversing and then slight misfire on start up

I stripped the TB I got with the veccy b dual tract XEV for the icav, cleaned it out and fitted it.
Also cleaned the TB and breather jet too

Last week the H-brake felt lifeless and wouldnt return when released, popped my head under the car and found the offside spring dangling, went to remove tje nearside and it just broke.
Fitted new ones and it feels tight again.
