HID Headlights
« on: 14 July 2015, 17:55:00 »

Just in the process of refurbishing a pair of hid headlights with ali adjusters and a good clean of both sides of the lenses.

Came to rebuild lights and have 2 questions.

1)..The lever for continental driving. On the lamp body there is a L and R stamped indicating the podition of the metal lever .Does that correspond to the driving side ..I/E.. " L" is for England as we drive on the Left  or " R " as car is RH drive.Never had cause to move lever before as always used sticky headlight things.

2)..One of the fixing lugs has snapped and will require glueing to fix. What is the best glue for this type of plastic/abs.

Thanks guys :y

From memory it refers to the beam throw, whether there to be symmetrical or not, ie over here the beam is thrown to the left, passenger side, flicking the switches should cancel most of that, parkup in front of a wall and all will become clear.

Found this amazing peice of confusion in the manual.

If I am reading this correctly it is refering to what needs to be done when driving outside UK :

So as English car is R/H Drive

Left Headight in UK lever is Downwards ...and abroad Upwards
Right................................Upwards........................Downwards
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adjust lever shown in illustration:
Left-hand drive vehicles
Left-hand headlamp = Move lever
downwards
Right-hand headlamp = Move lever
upwards
Right-hand drive vehicles
Left-hand headlamp = Move lever
upwards
Right-hand headlamp = Move lever
downwards

----------------------------------------------

Is that how everybody else is understanding this  :-\

Any advise on glue please Gents :y

Best left till the lights are fitted in the car. If you shine the lights against a garage door/wall you can easily see whether tbe beams are flat/symmetrical or have a kick up to the kerb/asymmetrical. But one lever will be up and the other down.
Your car will pass the MOT which ever way they are both set.
