Flight 103 blew up over Lockerbie ...... Amazing how time flies.

Lockerbie used to just be a sign I went past on the A74 & a place I once got stuck at for 2 hours on the train ..... I could never have imagined what Lockerbie would signify in later years.  :(

General Discussion Area / Scam emails
« on: 11 December 2013, 11:12:54 »
I've just had two emails allegedly from Fedex telling me that they've tried unsuccessfully to deliver a parcel. I know I've no parcels enroute so just hit the delete button.
I thought I'd look at the Fedex site and saw that they provide an email address to forward these emails to .... so I did.

They replied :-

Thank you for contacting FedEx.  We appreciate your taking the time to send
us this information.

Here are tips on how to recognize a fraudulent e-mail:
-- The e-mail asks for your personal information or a payment.  FedEx does
not request personal information or payments via unsolicited mail or e-mail
for goods being shipped or held.
-- The e-mail claims to be from FedEx regarding a package that could not be
delivered.  These e-mails ask you to open an attachment to obtain the
airbill or invoice for picking up the package.  FedEx tracking updates for
undeliverable packages do not include attachments.  The attachment
contained in this type of e-mail activates a virus.  DO NOT OPEN the
attachment.  Instead, delete the e-mail immediately.

Fraudulent e-mails are the unauthorized actions of third parties not
associated with FedEx.  You can help us make your online experience with
FedEx safe and efficient by reporting suspicious e-mails.

The following types of e-mails will be routed to our fraudulent e-mail unit:
-- Unsolicited e-mails that claim to come from FedEx.
-- E-mails that include attachments.
-- E-mails requesting your personal information.
-- E-mails that request a payment.
-- E-mails that misuse the FedEx logo.

Just a little reminder not to open anything you're not sure of.  :y

General Discussion Area / Bloody insurers
« on: 03 December 2013, 13:28:36 »
Until the other year, my building's insurance was included with my mortgage (Bradford & Bingley) but since their takeover by Santander has become a separate item. Its renewal came through the door yesterday ...... ?504 for the year  ??? Confused.com came up with prices from ?90-odd to ?300+a few quid! The best that my current insurers could do (the very last one in the list alphabetically  ;)) was knock 10% off  ;D

The tw4ts wouldn't cancel the continuous renewal until they'd spoken to us both!  >:(  >:(  >:(

where do my GBP signs go to .......

General Discussion Area / Vauxhall-less?
« on: 03 December 2013, 09:16:24 »
SWMBO wants a 'new' car ..... a green Citroen C3  ??? ..... anyway would I be a bad person if I got rid of the Omega in preference to her Smart?  ::) The Omega just sits there, all forlorn on the drive. If it went it'd be the first time in 30+ years I'd be Vauxhall/Opel-less. I suppose I could use the Smart for work instead of the Merc and just use it for towing duties  :-\

General Discussion Area / Energy costs
« on: 25 November 2013, 13:16:31 »
I live in a 4 bed detached house. In the main, there's just me & SWMBO along with guest appearances from my daughter.  ;)

I get both gas & electric from Eon and am currently paying what I think is an inordinate amount for them. I pay £107 (leccy) & £86 (gas) a month. We have two electric showers but don't ever use the tumble dryer. I can't think of anything unusual in our leccy usage compared with what others might use. In the last 12 months I use 18000 kWh of gas & 9000 kWhs of leccy

I'd be interested to hear what others are paying.  :-\

General Car Chat / Fast fit exhaust centres
« on: 13 November 2013, 13:06:13 »
How do these places arrive at their prices?

My daughter's Fiat 52 plate Seicento's exhaust is embarrassingly knackered ..... back box is goosed. As a starting point, I phoned the dealers, £200 + vat he says, but he'd knock the vat off.
Kwik Fit want £150 fitted, and National Tyres want £177 'including 30% discount' .... he wasn't impressed when I laughed at him and told him it was only just cheaper than the main dealer's prices without a 'discount'.  ???
Price at a mate's motorfactor ........... £37 + vat  :y :y :y
