OOF Intermittent performance
« on: 04 November 2018, 09:22:26 »

As some may have noticed, we've been up and down like a whore's drawers since about 8pm yesterday.

This is due to a problem at Zen Internet, which they believed they had resolved in the early hours, but reoccurred again.

Since the 1st fix in the early hours, we've had a reasonably stable connection, but our monitoring clear shows its not 100%.  Zen are on the case with the utmost urgency, due to the widespread nature of the issue.

Fingers crossed we won't be impacted too much until its properly resolved.

Didn't VM (or was it Sky) come out as the most complained about ISP for the stats for 2018? ;D.  I know Zen came top...

I must admit to getting thin on patience with them, the last time I spoke with their 'support' I was told that my slow speed was being caused by my wifi router generating extra traffic.  That was wierd because he knew this for certain despite not being able to see my network through the firewall and my own wireshark instances not showing anything to my security onion server.  Needless to say I got some money back when I complained about that and said I wanted to leave.  A double reboot this morning has further annoyed me.

I can't go sky because I need to use the supplied router in modem mode.  I could go BT and watch more rugby (to Mrs G's delight!), not sure about Zen.

I've been with Zen since I first got broadband. I could undoubtedly get it cheaper, but choose to have decent service instead.

The only time I've ever had a significant issue was a BT cock-up when we moved house 12 years ago, and they were very good in getting that resolved.

They also quickly realise when you are reasonably tech savvy on the phone and drop all the "have you tried rebooting your router?" BS.

Zen have notified us that the issue is fully resolved, so hopefully that will be the end of it :)

Yup, I've been in some deep discussions with them in the past, including the time they were analysing the contents of packets at the same time I was, in order to pin down a performance issue, caused by packet corruption.
