Post by: Mr Skrunts on 04 November 2019, 14:25:55
Currently pn offer for £2.82 plus vat for 3 years with the 1st month free.

Is it worth it?

Are there better services out there?

TIA

Given their recent behaviour after a breach (i.e. deny everything until you can't deny it anymore, then say "Well we needed some time to see if all of our 3000 servers were compromised or if it was just the private keys for, you know, one of them, because we don't have adequate monitoring & logging in place"), the answers are:

1) No.
2) Yes.

Try PIA instead.

Another recommend for PIA here ... worked well for the past year for me ..  :)

Nord is one to avoid at all costs, seeing as they are wholly incompetent at managing infrastructure, so all there servers are hacked.

Lets just say weve had a user subscribe....and cannot get on here since, presumably as the IP he has is flagged as very high risk!

It costs a significant amount of money to provide a VPN service.

So with the free ones, ask yourself how/why they do it ;)

What does this mean, exactly?

Fyde VPN is used for network inspection. It identifies and removes fake Wi-Fi networks, harmful domains, and other network irregularities that could compromise your personal information.

Fyde VPN isn’t a traditional VPN. We don't route your device traffic to our servers and don't receive or retain your data. What sets Fyde apart from all the other VPN solutions is that Fyde security checks are performed on your device locally. Consequently, your information stays private to you.

To benefit from Fyde security checks, set up the Fyde VPN on your device.

From that description, that's not a VPN.  Consider a VPN to be like a private tunnel. A VPN needs 2 endpoints, and one will be the device such as your laptop/phone/tablet, and the other endpoint will be where you are coming out of the other side of the tunnel.

A VPN can be for a number of reasons, be it to gain access to networks that cannot other wise be accessible via the internet, as an additional encryption, or to appear to come from somewhere else as opposed to your real location.

That means it is smoke and mirrors and almost certainly entirely useless. Enjoy your free placebo! ;)

If you are using a proxy to access, well, TBH, it'll always get blocked. That's the nature of them.

If you're not, PM me your (blocked) IP, and I will see if its in our block list and remove if required.

Does this mean I won't be able to access OOF via a VPN?

Depends....via VPN theres a fair chance you'll (try) to come in via a blocked IP and therefore wont get access.
Same for any site that utilises blocklists.

Trouble with proxies (including VPNs) is you're sharing IPs with a much higher percentage of dodgy people, and thus far more likely to end up on IP block lists.
