Not that I read this drivel but on the Sky News comment they just showed their headline:

"Brown to cut taxes to ease voter unrest"

This includes the 10p tax and the road tax hikes!  Would be great if it were true!

General Discussion Area / Roof carrying limit and the law
« on: 02 May 2008, 22:18:23 »
Hi peeps,

Looking at moving an 11ft dinghy later this month and I was wondering what the laws are concerning roof loads, weights, sizes etc.  Anyone got any ideas?

General Discussion Area / Sky TV
« on: 29 April 2008, 19:38:05 »
I was thinking of getting Sky TV here as BFBS TV is poo, geared more to the beer swilling, football hooligan soldier than the cheese and wine quaffing occifer. So.....

To cut a long story short, can anyone tell me what the deal is with 'marrying' a card to a digibox?  And if I got a second hand box and a new card with subscription (Ihave a source before anyone ask!) would I be able to 'marry' the box and card together?

As always, thanks in advance! :y

This is an actual letter from an Austin woman sent to American company Procter and Gamble regarding their feminine products. She really gets rolling after the first paragraph. It’s PC Magazine’s 2007 editors’ choice for best webmail-award-winning letter.

-----------------------------

Dear Mr. Thatcher,
I have been a loyal user of your ‘Always’ maxi pads for over 20 years and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core or Dri-Weave absorbency, I’d probably never go horseback riding or salsadancing, and I’d certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can’t tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there’s a little F-16 in my pants.

Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr.Thatcher? Ever suffered from the curse’? I’m guessing you haven’t. Well, my time of the month is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I’ll be transformed into what my husband likes to call ‘an inbred hillbilly with knife skills.’ Isn’t the human body amazing?

As Brand Manager in the Feminine-Hygiene Division, you’ve no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customers monthly visits from ‘Aunt Flo’. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control behavior. You surely realize it’s a tough time for most women. In fact, only last week, my friend Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her boyfriend’s testicles into a George Foreman Grill just because he told her h e thought Grey’s Anatomy was written by drunken chimps. Crazy! The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants… Which brings me to the reason for my letter.

Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi-pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: ‘Have a Happy Period.’
Are you fu*ing kidding me? What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness - actual smiling, laughing happiness is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you’re some kind of sick S&M freak girl, there will never be anything ‘happy’ about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlua and lock yourself in your house just so you don’t march down to the local Walgreen’s armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man! If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn’t it make more sense to say something that’s actually pertinent, like ‘Put down the Hammer’ or ‘Vehicular Manslaughter is Wrong’, or are you just picking on us?

Sir, please inform your Accounting Department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flex-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bull sh*t. And that’s a promise I will keep. Always.

Best,
Wendi Aarons

Cast your minds back to 2006 when all flights out of the UK were cancelled due to security.  I was in Canada on exercise and I had just managed to find a moment to call the wife.  She works for United Airlines out of Heathrow and was due to work that day......

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7328892.stm

Of the four flights the wife would have been on one of them  :o :o

......but if they did they would use Marky Mark!!

Got my DIS pack in the post room today, was sent from UK on Friday.  Plastered with urgent all over it, its a new record n the BFPO delivery challenge!

Plus changed it over and now the car drives a dream, took her out on the autobahn to celebrate   :y

Cheers DUDE!

What is the largest size adn weight of a boat I can legally tow with my omega?

I am investigating 3 boats I would like to build at some point and one of them has a beam (width) of 2.82m or 9'3".  Not sure exactly what the weight is but it is more than 2500Lb or 1136kg.

Will I have to get a bigger car if I want to trailor this mama?  :(

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/beds/bucks/herts/7312650.stm

Plans for the first car-share lane on the M1 have been dropped because they wouldent generate enough income in favour of other forms of traffic management.

General Discussion Area / AA driving school
« on: 24 March 2008, 22:52:32 »
Just had the wife on the phone who was going to suprise me and take her driving test tomorrow.  She's american and has been driving for 20 odd years yet she still has to take a full driving test one year after becoming a UK resident, but thats  a separate rant.

She booked a double lesson with the AA for Friday last week ao that she can learn the finer points of our pathetic driving test.  The instructor did a no-show so the wife called them up who were very apologetic, checked address ok blah blah.  Well the fooker has failed to turn up again and she is quite obviously starting to brick it.

I feel like driving home to lamp this guy when he turns up.  Unless they can get her an instructor tomorrow she's going to go into the test blind and will probably fail it.

Useless idiots!!   >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / How to do business
« on: 11 March 2008, 23:41:17 »
I feel I am in a very sarcastic mood tonight not helped by watching the first half of series 2 of House and by receiving an email form a company I sent an order to over a week ago.

Placed an order for some boat building study plans which I am interested in. No email or notification from the company.  So I send an email saying hi let me know when its on the way cheers, etc.  Still no reply, so I send another to a different address this time (off their contacts page) again no reply so try again and 8 days later I send this:

Hello,

I placed an order for some study plans and I have also sent 3 or 4 emails asking various questions, as yet I am to receive a reply.  Therefore I am not convinced that I am going to receive anything as I did not receive an emaikl from you when I placed the order which would have put my mind at rest.  If I have not heard anything from you in 1 week I will be contacting my card company to retreive the payment.

Kind regards,

Matt

Which in my view was perfectly legitimate considering I had no contact from the company whatso ever.  This is the reply I got 2 hours later:

Matthew,

Sorry but you are mistaken, we only received one email from you requesting that we notify you when we send your order, as your order had already been processed direct by our printer and likely to arrive shortly there was no point in adding it to our list of priority replies.
We do not take kindly to threats of credit card cancellation and are now naturally reluctant to accept any further orders from you by credit card, as like your previous order we have already paid for the postage.
If you care to return the packet unopened we will arrange for the refund of your credit card payment, our address is clearly printed on the reverse side.
Multiple messages are of course bounced back by our spam filter.

regards
from the crew at Hartley's in New Zealand

WTF!!  Sorry for not being important enough to deam a reply!  Anyway does anyone think I went too far replying with this:

Hartley crew,

Much obliged for the reply from which I deduced that there is in fact some life at Hartley's.  You see when one pays for something on the internet a small email that says order acknowledged package on its way soon would go a long way and would avoid such situations like this.  It will certainly let me know I have not been spammed by some company trying to copy the Hartley designs.  I hope you realise that there would have been some benefit to adding me to your list of replies.  I understand your may deal with a lot of influx but then if you have an automatic printer why not setup an automatic email, it was the fact I had heard nothing at all which concerned me.  After all, the internet is full of people trying to con other people and I have not received the study plans yet.

You may be upset, I am of course beside myself if you are, but my threats got a reply so mission accomplished!  As for future orders, we'll see.

Regards,

Matthew

P.S if you did not receive all my emails you may have to update your contacts page with emails that actually work as I tried several  ;-)  ttfn

I cant wait to see if they will honour me with a reply!!   ::) ::) ::) ::)
