The mash tun is full, the boiler is set to 84°C and I am about to start sparging.

Looks like another Guffer brew is on ;-)

I have 2 external lights which are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.  As part of a CCTV/alarm project I am looking to replace them with PIR lights but that means I have to raise them up a bit.

Obviously the lights were fitted during the build and the wiring comes out at about 2m off the ground but I need the PIRs at about 3m to give an effective flood of light.

Can I just fit a junction box where the wires come out and then wire in the new light?  Can I do it on my own or do I need a sparky to certify the job afterwards?

Mamy TIA  :y

I watched a report this morning on French TV about a machine which cools canned and bottled drinks quickly.  The French were very impressed with what us Rosbifs had managed to come up with as a means of energy efficient and rapid cooling.  It was then I remembered that Mr DTM had mentionned at Newent that he had been working on this.

Chapeau, mon ami  :y

I agree with the majority of this article, I still have reservations about riding in packs but that's my own (minority among cyclists) opinion.

General Discussion Area / You have to love France......

....and the French!

Just spent the afternoon/evening at a Wine Expo here in Lyon where I was given free entry and thus free access to 100s of different wines (hic!)  Evidently I bought far more than I could carry so I found the home delivery service where I made a new friend who, on discovering I was English, gave me the delivery for free (30€) took me to his friends stand where I basically drank the equivalent of a bottle while trying all his wines (one at 32€ a bottle) then to his brother in law's food stall where we sat eating some of the most delicious fois gras and cured duck.

I now have 3 new friends and a possible side-business venture :y

I can see some real benefit for getting aid in to distaster zones but I am not convinced it is commercially viable for moving cargo :-\

General Discussion Area / Drilling concrete
« on: 23 February 2014, 21:02:23 »
The break in the weather allowed me to get outside and waterproof the base of the shed.  4 tubes of butyl rubber sealant later and the job was done.  I then got around to fixing it properly to the concrete base I made before Christmas and started to drill the 10mm holes. 4 dead drill bits and just one 30mm hole later I gave up.  Even upgrading to a heavy duty drill bit has not worked, I gave up when the drill itself started to smoke a little.

I can only think it must be the drill?  It is a corded hammer drill but from a budget range I admit.  On one hand I am happy it is obviously a solid base, but I also need to fit a bracket to lock the new bike to when I get it.  The base was made with scalpings and I can only imagine that I have hit a stone and that is what is causing the issues.

I have thought about hiring one of these for the day:

Any thoughts?

I know he is raising money but there is a lot more than that he requires to achieve his goal.  I though that some on here would be able to help sourcing parts, any spare tools we may have, know of any cheap cars he could use, mechanical training and helping setup the car before he goes etc.

He is an Ex-Army officer who is married to a friend of mine, doing this crazy thing in support of a charity close to his heart.

Maybe we can get him to put an OOF sticker in the back window?  ;D
