Not unreasonable not to know, if you are self-employed, run a business or are employed, but are on commission, performance bonuses or even more so if you have incentive share options. ;) ;) ;)

All alien to the majority of MP's of course where the leave uni., work as a political researcher for an MP and then get a safe seat. Which mean they know sweet fek all about commerce and the real world. :( :( :(

The MP even suggested that he forgot about the share options and just give a ball park figure ....... I'd say that most people know what they're paid or paying themselves

Anyone else not know what they earn ........  ??? ???  ;D
Mrs TB and I were just discussing similar...  ...and it turns out our guesses were both over 10% out when we checked. And that's not including bonuses.

I suspect if on his sort of salaries and performance related perks, he probably will be way out unless he'd specifically checked.

I would imagine his accountant sets the most tax efficient combination of salary and other benefits on an annual basis, so no, I'm not remotely surprised.

Besides, it's his business and nobody else's.

Mines goes up and down based on performance, daily rate I negociate, mileage, etc.  Plus you get the variable bonus which can be 0 or above and the military reserves salary which barely covers my costs* despite being commissioned and having 8 years seniority in rank ::)

*travel, food, bar bill, fair compensation to the wife for time away at the weekend, kit and equipment over and above what is issued, etc.

So to be fair, I wouldn't know within say 10-20% one month from the next and that's without overly creative accounting.

I could guess within £500 what I would earn from month to month.  The company I work for has a very obscure way of paying bonus.

I cope with this by never spending more than I have in the bank.

Not really.  I shall have my bonus confirmed soon which could significantly change my official annual salary as far the taxman is concerned.

it seems they don't have to tell anyone what he earns, even their shareholders >:(

guardian estimate it at £137,000,000 a year
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/feb/11/google-europe-boss-salary-returned-no-results-matt-brittin
"Conservative Richard Bacon had one last question.

“Your negotiations with HMRC went on for six years,” he observed. “Did it take so long because Google is very bad at explaining or because HMRC is very bad at understanding?”

Part of the answer was immediately provided by the next witness. Enter Lin Homer, aka Dame Disaster, head of HMRC. Dame Disaster spent the first five minutes answering a question she had not been asked and the next five explaining why she was not a tax expert. Google 8, HMRC 0. Referee stopped fight.
