CID LCD Panel replacement
« on: 18 May 2009, 12:10:50 »

The LCD panels on the Colour Information Display suffer a relatively common fault suspected to be on the ribbon to LCD glass connection. It results in coloured lines and patterns on the display. (photo needed please)

This would be a specialist repair, if indeed possible. The most common solution is to replace the LCD panel.

Remove the CID from the dash using other guides on this site.

Remove the 4 torx screws, shown with red arrows below) holding the back cover on. There are 2 types:

(note that the lower type, you may have to peel back yellow sticker to see the screw)

Once back cover removed, you need to desolder the 3 pins that are part of the 3 connectors at top of CID

and unlatch the plastic clip that holds connector in place

Remove the 4 (or 2 if you have the second type of back cover) torx screws shown in red below, and disconnect the backlight feed shown in blue

Very gently lift the board up to expose the ribbon cable, and disconnect by gently pulling the retention clip out slightly. Clip shown in red, and needs to come out of the connector shown in blue by about 1-2mm.

The board can then lift clear.

Release the 4 plastic clips that hold the cage in place

Release the backlight feed from the CID plastic casing

From the front of the CID, gently push the LCD panel out

Reassembly is reverse.
