Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: POWER SOUNDER BATTERY
« on: 13 March 2009, 16:31:36 »
Yes mate that sounds just like the sounder batteries dying. just disconnect it mate. You still have the main alarm horn as the sounder is only there if somebody disconnects the main car battery.
P.S. when you've unplugged it test your alarm (bonnet switch is the easiest way) just to make sure your alarm horn works.
Mine was duff so had to buy a new one (think about £15)

Thanks for the replies, was'nt sure of exact voltage because it pulses rather than a continuous supply. I know when i took the sounder apart it only had 2 x 3.6 volt ni-cads in it(7.2 volts) or was it 2 x twin packs of 3.6 volt ni-cads which would be 14.4 volts

P.S. Marks DTM .i'll be in touch soon about waking up (Tech-2ing) my retro fit cruise( still not sure if i have the clutch switch yet) Fitting the stalk today.

Thanks again peeps

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Alarm horn?
« on: 19 June 2008, 15:23:18 »
The alarm sounder packed up on me last year so i'm just left with the alarm horn. I set the alarm off the other day and its, well not the most impressive of sounds (beep beep beep) its a bit lame to say the least.
Is there a replacement (very loud) horn i could fit/wire up?. The alarm sounder made a much better noise but as its designed to go off when there is a voltage drop(battery disconnection) i cant see the point of replacing it(you would never hear it)

Thanks in advance

Hi orangepants, dont forget your power sounder has nicads inside so it may get the hump when you disconnect it. mine went off for about half an hour (could'nt do anything about it) but when it stopped, the peace and quiet was lovely. by the way its under the scuttle (drivers side), managed to disconnect mine without removing wipers and scuttle, i just undid the first bolt on the left hand side and lifted the scuttle enough to get my hand in there to unplug it.

Yes, sounds like your sounder has duff batteries. Mine used to go off at 3 am. Vauxhall Want 50 quid plus vat for a new sounder. i just disconected mine. As its only a back up sounder ,(just incase somebody disconnects you main car battery) you can unplug it till you get time and money to sort out a new one. You will still have the main alarm horn so your alarm will still sound off.

Omega General Help / Re: Brake Pad Wear Sensor
« on: 23 October 2010, 21:46:04 »
on the later facelifts only one sensor was fitted (front nearside)
If your front pads are ok and its just the sensor thats broken then just cut the wire (after the plug) and join up the two wires. this should stop the warning light, but
1, check it is the sensor wire youare cutting(mine was black)
2, check your pads often now that you have no warning

or you could buy a new sensor from VX About £9 plus vat i think

Omega General Help / Re: recommended manual gearbox oil..

I've always used genuine VX manual Gearbox fluid in mine... always been clunky to change from 1st to 2nd from cold and after 200 miles. Could i change it to sae75 instead. bit thicker me thinks. original VX is as thin as tap water?

excuse the post hijack :)

Omega General Help / horrible smell passenger side
« on: 20 July 2011, 21:10:35 »
just fitted a new crank sensor. noticed when i was under the oil filter i could see drips of something yellowish. comming from the top of engine below the skuttle Which was off. Had a horrible burnt smell since the aircon was gassed up. mixture of old oil / and engine felt very hot on that side.
The liquid smelt like gearbox fluid but not pink
Aircon fans not kicking in now at all

checked water level. seemed a bit low just at centre panel of expansion tank. noticed seal on top of lid knackered fitted replacement lid

Just found that small top hose caught behind the bagpipes at the front of engine. it hangs down from behind the top of the radiator just above the fan itself. Connects to the otherside of Radiator top connection. dont hink any water was getting through. to the top of rad.

When engine cools down i,ll try it again. :-[
