Windscreen rubber surround loose
« on: 23 March 2017, 19:20:19 »

Hi

At the top corners the surround rubber on the screen is loose and won't push back in. I'm wondering if at some point a new windscreen has been put in and the surround not put back in right. Picture not the best as took at dusk.

How do I get this back into place?

Cheers

If memory has any accuracy I think it is a sort of thin double sided tape they use .... but its a while since I watched them do it ...:(

I think I do see some sort of tape remnants in there, although don't want to pull it back too far in case it comes out further.

There is tape listed here so maybe that is what I need - no 16:

Nope. Nope and nope.

The screen has a frame fitted to it. Prior to fitting the screen, the frame is fitted, followed by the two rubber trims. The screen is then fitted.

There are two possible reasons why your trim is lifting...

1. The frame has been reused and the clips are broken.
2. A cheap pattern frame has been fitted, no pun intended.

In either case if the screen isn't spot on in the aperture then it won't fit properly and your picture is the result.

Had a bit more of a peer in and can see V shaped section on back of trim with horizontal clips, they looked shagged out/mashed shut. Likely need to remove the whole thing to have a better look, and judging by the state of the trim replace it, that is if frame is ok.

Only fix is a replacement screen and trim... No other course of action will work, unless you bodge it by using glue to stick it down.

Exactly that - I've had no trim on mine for months since Autoglass replaced my screen as it simply won't stay and they don't care.  >:( In my case it's option 2.

Don't accept "not caring" as an answer. You've (insurance company) paid a vastly inflated fee for a service. If Autoglass refuse to repair it under their guarantee then go to your insurance company.

Had exactly the same problem with a replacement screen from autoglass with all new trims. Thought I'd sorted it by warming the rubber then massaging into the recess. A couple of trips up the motorway soon dispelled that myth and have had to glue it in place. No problems since.

My screen has a large crack in the passenger side bottom corner and what with being busy at work and not wanting it done in the colder months have been putting of its replacement, albeit insurance cover is inplace except my excess.

Question is :
When a new screen is fitted should the entire trim be replaced as part of the procedure and as such is covered under the terms of the insurance claim.

Yes as it's part of the screen assembly  ;)

Usual excuses range from the screen has been stolen/no trims to we never replace them...

Whatever parts the use, the frame gets fitted to the screen then the rubber gets fitted to the frame and then the screen is fitted. Any deviation from this and the screen either sits proud or too low... in which case the rubber either tears out in the airflow or cannot be fitted, respectively. Either way it's screen out to fix :'(

Under no circumstances should you presume that they actually know what they are doing.

Go independent :y won't be an insurance job though, so you'll pay retail... flip side is you'll get a better job done and the insurers can't then bend you over for it come renewal... typically £120-160.

Personally, I would use these guys...

I agree go to an independent I was quoted a ridiculous amount for a replacement an independent did it for £65.00.
