I've just got in from ringing practice and the essential couple of pints afterwards, and that seems like a damn good idea. It would be even better if we had any :(

Mince pie....bloody good - thought she would have bought it from Waitrose - no Aldi surprisingly - great taste but lid was loose :)

Got mine from Aldi, lid was loose on mine, too!

My Dec 2015 What Pie? Twin Test....

Aldi
Mincemeat - 3 - good, equal in quality to Coop, with fractional 'hard bits'
Pastry - 4 - equal in taste to Coop, however the amount has been scrimped on, affecting torsional rigidity.
Overall presentation - 5 - very attractive, with snowflakes design on top.
Construction - 1 - sadly a loose top and willingness to break up and fall in your lap gives a low score here. Thicker pastry would help.

Co-op
Mincemeat - 3.5 - good, equal in quality to Aldi, with but an overall 'softness', which I preferred
Pastry - 4 - equal in taste to Aldi, but thicker pastry meant zero breakup.
Overall presentation - 3 - very standard, Aldi has raised the bar in these stakes.
Construction - 4 - Near-top marks for this Volvo of Mince Pies.

Overall Score

Co-op 14.5
Aldi 13

Co-op comes out on top in this test, but with a higher list price, some 30p more, this is where the quality shows. However, if you're able to look past the build quality issues of the Aldi you won't be sorry as this is a fine looking, and fine tasting pie.

Next Week in What Pie? McVitie's Chocolate Digestives vs Cadbury Wheaties...  :y

I didn't know you were into cloning cars. :-X

But yes, they were good. Sorry if I've cast a shadow on your post-pub munchies. ;)

So Aldi mince pies have common problem of loose lid - strategy must be to eat 4 and take back for replacements on regular basis
