Leakage in AC
« on: 29 June 2020, 17:41:49 »

Friend of mine bought 2003 2.2 saloon. AC did not work so he got the system filled. Blowed cold for a while but not anmore. Most propable a leakage somewhere but where. How to start?

If the system has recently been recharged it should have some green dye in it.

Usually failure is the base of the condensor.

A decent a/c place wouldve put a dye in when they re-gassed so that leaks would show up under U/V light  ;)

Common failure on a car as old as even the newest Omega will be the condensor cos it lives right up front & gets full of road salt which will rot it. After that it could also be one or both fill valves .... both of which are cheap enough if the parts dept can find them.

Very true :y

Mine has had to have about 3 years ago now a new condenser and a compressor due apparently to the failure of the former. That was after a refill had been done by one garage who had failed to spot the faults. My VX dealer put it all right, and great cost!! ::) ::) :'( :'(

In order of common failure.
Condenser
Hp/LP valves, HP valve gums up needs cleaning with carb cleaner,, LP fit a new core,
Pipe under battery box along chassis rail.

Connecting block were dryer is bolted to condenser, leaks.
Compressor seals, and seals were pipes join.

 Pressure sensors, just stop working.
Expansion valve, up behind dash/glove box.
Evaporator,, very rare to go, whole dash out to replace.

Also check electric plug on bottom of compressor, for broken wire.
