Car is ok up to about 70, but above this there is a thudding or vibration from what seems like the gearbox or just downstream.
What could this be?

Changes seem smooth enough.
No fault codes or warnings.

Thanks

I think I would check the rear tyres for any lumps or bulges, and then for balance.
I would also check the the rubber propshaft couplings for deterioration.

Might be prop shaft bearing, or rather the rubber mount for it. At higher speeds it can bang about.

Manual or auto? Had been told that a thudding can be an auto that is desperately in need of an oil change

Thanks.
It's an auto.
I was thinking prop shaft or gearbox at the moment, rather than wheels or tyres related at the moment.
I think it is more when under load in a gear rather than speed related.

Car has done 95k.  The changes aren't thudding.

Thanks again

You can easily check the prop shaft bearing. Get car over a pit, or jack up one side and support car on axle stands. Remove the heat shields below the prop shaft centre bearing. You will now have revealed the centre bearing, supported on a bracket. Grab the prop shaft and see if you can move it far enough to bang into something. If you can, the rubber bush which supports the bearing is gone and needs replacing. Last one I bought cost £47.
