ABS membership fee.
« on: 16 October 2017, 18:25:19 »

Had a letter a while back saying my subs were due. It didn't seem to say how how to pay though. Anyone know how I can give them some money ?  :D

Sadly mine lapsed years ago, as they never allowed me on the forum, and £20 was a lot for the straight 6 mag

Likewise after a similar amount of time. I e-mailed my reasons but got zilch reply. Obviously just a number, even after so long.

Do I notice some negativity towards ABS? ::) ::) :D :D

I would just say that I NEVER even try to access their Forum - OOF is enough for me!! - but the £25 annual membership fee I get back many, many times over in trade discount on parts, service, MOT's, repairs, in fact everything I purchase at my main dealers.  It also helps me to still have a Halfords Trade Card which saves even more. 8) 8) ;)

How does it get a Halford's trade card, Lizzie?

it helps because its shows you are a member of a 'trade body' and you have credentials in the motoring world.  However since Halfords have now opened up the criteria to just about ANYBODY as long as you walk in with some ID that shows you work for somebody is enough for you to get a  trade card.

The first bit is absolutely right, as my possession of a Trade Card quickly pursuaded the Halfords manager to grant me one of their TC's years ago.

However, they recently had a very big crackdown on customers abusing the TC system and you had to prove your identity before being able to purchase at TC prices.

Just to clarify; an ABS membership card alone won't do it. then?

Not necessarily, as the Halfords store manager (at least when I got my card many years ago) had the final say on whether or not you can have a Halfords TC. ;)

Basically if you walk into Halfords with some qualifying ID weather that be a florists business card or a payslip from Scania or heck even wearing some branded overalls you WILL get a trade card. - Yes a lot of it does come down to how you treat the staff - if you treat us with the contempt that a lot of people show on the internet your not going to get anywhere fast however if you talk to us like we are human and in most cases following the party line then you will invariably get what you want.

People really go out of there way to talk crap about places like Halfords and in some cases for very good reason - but you also have to remember that its just a job for 99.9% of the staff who work there and along with the targets enforced on us from above the last thing we need is someone twining in our ear about us charging £8.00 for a bulb fit.

Sorry for the rant!

Didn't mean my post to sound negative about ABS membership.Indeed I think it is a very good little club and I made many friends through it.Not being able to access the forum what not a factor in my decision not to renew my membership.It was just odd that after going through the hoops to be able to do so every time I tried it kept coming up with something like user name or password wrong and wouldn't let me on even after re-setting password and such like.
