I just put a litre of ATF in it and tried it, now drives ok. Going to put it up on ramps try and get a better look at where it's coming from.

Can’t you refill and try it?

I read that there is a dipstick under the battery tray, but I've took all that out and found a screw in cap like an oil filler, not a dipstick, although somone said it's at the front near the engine mount so will have another look.

Hi all

My neighbour just bought an antara diesel auto and said could I have a look at it as there was a leak underneath, he was out this morning and said I'd see him when he got back, he got back - just - and said we tried putting the car on my ramps but it wouldn't drive back or forward.

I checked for codes, there were none, but noticed that underneath the sump and area around the crank oil seal looks ok, but the oil is coming down onto the tray that covers the box.

I'm starting to think it is autobox leaking, and it's finally ran out hence the no drive. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge of these cars and common faults?

Thanks

G

Essentially they're lock clips to prevent the actual fixings from coming adrift. Think the sliding tab on an electrical connector.

Refit them as intended, but don't lose too much sleep over them :y

Nope, I promise I won't get OCD about it, plenty more stuff to do that with :y

Omega General Help / Matrix pipes little green clip pipe end

So, as part of my strip and check of the coolant and breather system on the elite (3.2) I decided to take off the matrix pipes and the coolant valve to check it all over.

I had a bit of a struggle figuring out how the pipes actually unclipped off, but then eventually got it. The top one came off quite easy, the bottom one was the proverbial bar steward.

Before I took the hose off, I could see a green plastic clip on the matrix pipe neck on both in and out pipe as in pic below.

although they weren't secured to the coolant pipe, just sitting on the pipe necks.

Once I had pipe off, I noticed that I could snap this green clip into the front of the pipe. Is that case, that you have to pull this green clip back towards you once pipe is back on? I don't see how that secures it though, or does it hold the clips on the pipe shut as well?

I think the HBV must have been replaced at some time as I can see some staining on the bottom of the pipe where the 3 pipes mould into 1 like it had been leaking in there at some point.

Not sure about those green clips though. With them floating on the pipe it would suggest this has been off before.

To finish off, here's what happens when you start putting your hands into the back of an omega engine bay, there will be blood!

Could be worth checking for oil in the plug wells as a start, pointing to leaky rocker covers, then requiring a full clean of the breather system and new rocker gaskets etc.

How old is fuel in it? A fuel filter change wouldn't go amiss if you don't know when it was last changed. Also worth clearing the fault codes and seeing what comes up again, as those could be old stored codes. Disconnect battery for a bit to clear them.

Maybe the leadership contest will collapse and she'll be there for us for evermore! Wasn't really celebrating because the problems she created (that we'll all pay for) are still very much with us and the SNP look like they want to continue down that path, it's just one deck chair moved on the titanic that's all.

Apparently she was called seaweed at Uni because even the tide wouldn't take her out!

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 metallic "clink" sound on start up

Cool, thanks for all the replies, I think now that I'm feeling this rubbing from the cover, it be worth investigating the TB. I don't think I could rest until I had tbh. Won't be doing it right now as car still in Winter mode but will get to it in the next Month or so and see what's what.

Luckily I heard the sound it was only for a few secs, you wouldn't hear it unless you were standing at the engine bay right after start up.

So bit of an update, but not really positively identifed the issue. I decided to take the aux belt off and check/spin the pulleys before it started, nothing that I could feel or hear wrong, apart from that slight play in the tensioner pulley.

Then started it up without the belt first to see if I could hear anything, nothing, then put belt back on to see if the noise came back, it didn't. I was half expecting it to, but then thought maybe playing about with the tensioner moved something in it, if it is that at fault.

After that I noticed a sort of low dull repeated scraping from what sounded like behind the belt cover, and when I put my hand on it, I could feel this dull repeating scraping sound.

So, not got to the source of the original problem, but now got another, and it sounds deeper this time! Need to do a bit more digging.

Seen a few posts through car forums that people are getting certificates of conformity from the manufacturer for the ULEZ thing, I don't really get what they mean though, as is the ULEZ not saying your car has to meet euro 6, or is it euro 4 emissions levels for petrol, which is what they test at MOT, so what difference is a certificate of conformity going to make?
