Title: Re: 2.5 tb power steering hose leak
Post by: 350sb on 06 May 2018, 22:34:08
Hi,

My diesel has another cut power steering hose and this time it is the hose on the drivers side that is wrapped in foil. What’s the easiest way to remove it?
My issue is that mechanics in East London don’t seem to want to work on Omegas these days and one of them told me that it’s a whole day job.

Thanks.

just unbolt both ends drain the fluid and replace the line with another one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-B-2-5XE-3-0XE-Power-Steering-Pipe-New-Genuine-/152949590267?clk_rvr_id=1523001366746&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=twenga&utm_campaign=twenga&utm_param=eyJlcyI6MCwicyI6OTcyMDIzNywiY2kiOiIwM2NkN2VjY2Y1MzRmYTdjNmRhNTI2ZDkyZGQyYzc0YyIsImkiOiIxNTI5NDk1OTAyNjciLCJ0cyI6MTUyNTcxMjYxNCwidiI6Mywic28iOjE1MDAsImMiOjMzNTg4fQ%3D%3D&rmvSB=true. top back up and start engine and full lock on steering left then right and then top up to mark. done.

Only OP has a TD, which has different pipes I'd imagine, as the pump is in a different place

Thanks guys, I wasn’t sure if this pipe also fitted the petrol models. I will unbolt it and get back to you. :)

Guys, I just removed the air filter box to gain access to the pipe and checked that it is same as part number DE 24419089 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-POWER-STEERING-PUMP-HOSE-PIPE-DE-24419089/310311004127?epid=20016874004&hash=item483ffa27df:g:YCMAAOSwxdtasTaQ (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-POWER-STEERING-PUMP-HOSE-PIPE-DE-24419089/310311004127?epid=20016874004&hash=item483ffa27df:g:YCMAAOSwxdtasTaQ)
The front end which needs WD40 to release probably goes to the pump but the rear end goes to the steering box. It's the end going to the steering box that's going to be a pain to release and can it be removed without interfering with the brake booster lines in the way? Looks like only a number 19 spanner can get to it. do you have any suggestions?

Guy's, I've opened the flare nut on the front end of the power steering pipe, but am having trouble getting to the flare nut on the steering box. There are also 2 brake lines going to the master cylinder.
Any suggestions will be appreciated :)

Apologies, I meant that there are the 2 brake lines going to the master cylinder which are in the way of getting to the steering box.

Ah got ya. I changed the box on my TD a year or two ago, and although it required some creative thinking, I don't recall any serious problems. IIRC I connected the top pipe on the box before the box was completely mounted, if you follow me. You will still have to do the final tightening with it in situ.

If you're renewing the steering pipe, cut it off close to the union and use a deep socket...

If that helps ;)

It's getting to the first flare nut on the steering box and I had trouble getting a 19mm crow foot.  :(

I did it without a crowfoot! :y

Could you please tell me how you removed the first flare nut please  :) .  At the moment, the brake booster and the master cylinder are in way, as well as the brake lines to the master cylinder. What’s the risk of removing the brake booster and master cylinder?
