I've got a 1976 avenger and a 71 avenger.. that have been sat in the garden for nearly 19 and 13 years respectively. and they still move and are not totally rusted away surprisingly..

My dad rallying in one of those “back in the day”.  ;D

I had a 1.6 auto avenger. I lent it to my builder mate for a day and, when he brought it back, it 'clanked'. Took me a while to get him to admit he'd hitched his trailer to the back and towed 1.5 ton (old ton) of sand.
He'd twisted the propshaft.

They were a fairly useful rally car. Engine was tuneable and they handled well with the right bits bolted on.  :y

It replaced a brace of Mk1 escort Mexico(ish)s. They were actually police specials with the Mexico running gear but without the stiffer shells, until they were stiffened up for rallying that is ;).

I can’t help but think if only he’d kept hold of the Mexico’s he could have retired rather sooner than he did  ;D

A mate of mine had an Avenger Tiger when we were young and stupid. :y

I recall several occasions when an unscheduled swapping of the front and rear ends of the car occurred. ;D

You'll be doing a lot of nothing now you've got a decent car, Tony. You'll soon be hankering for the good old days when you came out in the morning to be greeted by a pool of coolant on the drive, or getting stuck in the arse end of nowhere.  ;D

It was indeed. Coil springs rather than horse & cart springs, although highly specced works type Escorts also had expensive coil spring conversions iirc.
I well remember feeling chuffed at how sideways I got my Avenger on a bend one night, just before it sideswiped a tree and made an awful mess of the rear quarter panel.  ::) ;D

True.  ;D Youthful exuberance and inexperience are a lethal combination.  ::)
Thing is, I was bringing the car over to England a few days later, so had to effect some sort of repair. I had lots of filler but not much hardener, but I reckoned if I mixed in what hardener I and and sprayed over the top with rattle cans it would go off eventually.
It didn't. Had the car another year after that and it was still like soft putty under the paint.  ;D

Put a snow shovel in the boot...

Between that and winter tyres, it should stop snowing :-X
