Which is better...
1.8 petrol
1.9 (150)diseasel :-\
Not a fan of the diesel lump if I'm honest... would rather get 35 mpg from a petrol than 36 mpg from a diesel...
Better in this context meaning reliability/performance/economy/ease of repair.
From experience the 1.8 is good for 150k plus, btw...
-
all day long 150 diesel they do have some problems, but no more then any other diesel now days
-
Even for town work?
-
I do 70 odd miles a day in the 1.9 (150) and it does some short stop start work inbetween, and its spot on.
With just the long stuff, it can see 50 mpg, reduces to 40 with the other stuff.
ONLY consider it if doing decent trips a lot, but that goes for any modern diesel these days. Been very reliable.

My experience of the 1.9 cdti lump is limited to one Vectra C manual, that car managed 36mpg over 25k, and was in the workshop for warranty work every three weeks, which was mostly engine related, hence my distrust... three 1.8 Vectra Cs and about 300k between them and consistently averaging 32-35mpg, not a single engine issue except for an intermittent fault light for the variable valve solenoid filters on the Z18XEV. This took a whole ten minutes to fix :o (Thanks to MrDTM for his guidance :y).
The pence per mile is near enough the same petrol vs. diesel, and petrol offers the possibility to fit lpg.
Servicing the 1.8 is a piece of cake too, and costs peanuts...

The oil filter is just visible to the right of the manifold, two minute job.

Having changed twenty of them, an oil/oil filter/air filter/pollen filter and plug change takes barely 30 minutes... That said, with a spin on filter the Omega V6 can have the same in about 40 mins 8)

Mr STMO, your Daewoo has the same engine iirc... What mpg do you get on your Asda run?

About 25 round town but, of course, it all depends on traffic. I had a particularly bad couple of weeks a while back, roadworks everywhere. Managed to get it down to 17. ;D
-
;D not bad considering it's shaped like a brick...
-
I get around 34mpg day to day in my deseasal battlebus. 40 on a run.
-
I have heard that the 1.9 diesel is far more suseptable to head gasket failure than the 1.7 as it is a bit more stressed.

Preferred approach is...
1.8 petrol, swap the spare for an lpg tank and fit heavy duty springs :y

As you know, the spare is slung underneath at the back. Unless you get a modern one, then there will just be a big.......nothing. ;D
But you will get a free pot of glue. :y

This is good as it should accommodate a full size 90l gas tank with the minimum of fuss 8)

Cost me over £300 to get a cradle and spare wheel, but only a measley £18 to have them fitted.

Not bad for 2 bolts ;D

Not quite, two for the cradle hinge and two long ones for retaining/releasing it. The relevant holes were blanked with some kind plastic bungs, which were weatherproofed, so not quite 2 bolts and, for £15 +vat, I couldn't be arsed. Plus....the kit was two bolts short, which the garage supplied.

Yep. One hook, orlando has two. I think the carrier for mine was £130, the wheel about £60 and the tyre £80. Something like that.
