General Car Chat / Re: Overfilling your tank?!
« on: 24 June 2019, 09:21:15 »
EVAP control solenoid failure is a common issue on the Z28 engine Vectra C / Signum.

Not sure what causes the fail, could be linked to brimming the tank, but the diagnosis is stop, fill with fuel (to any level) and then it takes quite a while to start

General Car Chat / Re: £4000 for your Omega.

......the whole offer is a crock of shite. Anyone can buy an old banger for £50 and get £4000 off a new car. They might as well just put a sign up saying 'Four grand off'.

Small print says you have to have owned the vehicle for 90 days minimum before trade in, event only runs for 30 days, so you cant just buy an old shitter and get 4k off, obviously the bean counters aren't quite that stupid

That particular one was less than £30 delivered, same day, with Amazon prime.

I have another one which, in the kit, has a tyre inflator that works off the battery, that also works exceptionally well for what it is

General Car Chat / Re: Will Omega wheels fit on a Vectra?
« on: 24 May 2019, 08:01:38 »

real cars with all 3 pedals (as GOD intended) repel such demonic possession  ;D

Because DMF's, release bearings, slave, cylinders, master cylinders, bearings in the box and the clutch NEVER fail and NEVER cost thousands to replace?

Wonder if anyone with an M32 gearbox will agree it doesn't needs a head-spinning cross inserting green puke removing priest?

And back to the original question, not with Omega tyres, Vectra 17s were 215 or 225 width as OEM, the Omega tyres will make it handle worse than it does  :D

They have done plenty of cars which weren't iconic, but a bit sporty or interesting. quite a few of the cars they did could have been substituted for the equivalent Vauxhall, so they obviously had something against them.
Golf GTi or Pug 205 GTi  could have been replaced by Astra GTE for example.
Also depends on your definition of iconic. It could be argued that Droopsnoot Firenza, Chevette HS, maybe even Mk3 Cavalier SRi, and certainly Lotus Carlton were iconic.

But that's the point, ask any car forum, outside of a Vauxhall one, to name an 80s hot hatch and the list will be populated by the Golf GTi, Pug 205 GTi, XR3i, RS Turbo, R5 GT Turbo and i would bet an MG Maestro/ Metro gets mentioned before many come up with the Astra

Name one from the 70's and it'll be the Lotus Cortina, Sunbeam Lotus, BMW 2002ti, Escort Mexico/ RS2000, Capri, Dolomite, P1800, or an American muscle car, most wont even think about a Vauxhall, apart from the odd rally fan who might mention the Opel Manta which isn't even a Vauxhall

Apart from a couple of years in the BTCC, one year when they were the only manufacturer, where is the motorsport heritage? How many Vauxhall F1 cars have their been? infact how many F1 teams have used a Vauxhall engine? How many times have Vauxhall won Le Mans. The last winning Rally car was an Opel badged machine

They have done an Opel, so it kind of tallies with what side of the branding brings the interest

There is no conspiracy or hatred, its purely the fact that a Vauxhall of any variety has very very little interest to the general public. Outside of the UK Vauxhall doesn't exist, every other make they have shown is pretty much a global brand and as its a global show, what are you going to do? Market forces etc etc

Wheeler dealers have never had a Vauxhall on the show for some reason.

Its nothing to do with like and don't like, its purely down to the fact Vauxhall have never made a truly iconic car.

Ask the general public and they will go through all number of Cosworth/ Lotus/ XR/ RS branded Fords, Mini's, Italian sports cars, Japanese turbo'd saloons even Swedish estates before very very few will mention the Lotus Carlton or Big Bertha, the only two half stand out cars, neither of which can be bought for sensible money and change hands with any regularity.

Even the VX220 turbo, a fantastic car, never had a Vauxhall written anywhere on it

I bet there's more people that have never even heard of a Cavalier turbo than have

Hence why make a program about a car no one gives a toss about either in Europe or the USA where the programs are made

According to 'How many left'......just one 2.8T Elite remains. So my car is unique and very valuable. :y

Erm...

My Signum is a 2.8T Elite, so mine must be unique as well?  :o ;D

Wouldn't worry as when you have the spoiler fixed the aerial will smash against the spoiler and scratch it/ damage the aerial base.

There was a little metal bit that went in the aerial base on the estate that changed the angle of the whip so it didn't hit, but these corrode in and when you change the whip it gets stuck and you end up damaging the base, so change to a stub aerial first would be my advice

Cars for Sale & wanted / Re: F/S Omega 3.2 V6 Elite Estate 2002
« on: 24 April 2019, 08:17:36 »
Just to clarify as it is my car and only half the facts are being shared,  James first contacted me back in JANUARY regarding the car, partly due to my health issues over the last few weeks, (osteomyelitis in case you are bothered) as it was near impossible to walk for a few weeks I was unable to push the sale.

Once I had the MOT done (which I didn't need to do but knew a car with 12 month ticket is more saleable) I did contact James and did say as he had contacted me previously, would he still be interested now it had 12 months MOT, at the same time the fact it had a new MOT went public and I had interest from 4 others, Kate being the 4th person to ask.

James out of the blue offered £100 deposit on the proviso it could be collected in 2 weeks after his holiday, its taxed to the end of the month and insured so that didn't bother me, and, as they say money talks, so I agreed the sale AND messaged the other interested parties straight away so as to not keep them hanging.

As it happens James actually paid £200 deposit which to me says he is serious

At the end of the day I'm fully aware an Omega with 12 month MOT with a load of spares at £500 is cheap, I could get more elsewhere, but in all honest I can't be arsed, I'm happy, I feel I have not done anything untoward and have been very clear with anyone interested that it had 'sold'. I could have had you all lining up on a Saturday and wasted everyone's time as the first one with cash would always take it home but I didn't.

Hopefully that clears up the confusion

General Car Chat / Re: ULEZ 2021 - The end for my Omega
« on: 26 February 2019, 10:03:25 »
TFL website says my Omega and Signum are not subject to ULEZ,both being petrol, my diesel 156 and Dispatch however are.

Currently the ULEZ is only the congestion charge area, but it will extend to everything withing the North and South circulars, which includes a huge part of the run run down sh!thole of East London, that'll cause the row

Is it worth considering an Adam?

I absolutely would - but there's only one automatic one for sale currently, that I can find.. and I think it (and the Corsa) are a single clutch automated manual, rather than a traditional (torque converter) automatic?

pretty much the only small car actually designed to work with an auto box in recent years is the Nissan Micra  all the rest are as you say automated manuals  :y

Its unlikely to be a brick rainscreen, joints are far too rubbish for a factory made panel.

Also mortar is different shades suggesting 'hand' not 'machine' batched and the efflorescence in the face of the brickwork suggests proper bricks badly stored, you very rarely see that in factory made rainscreen panels.

If it was a rainscreen panel, based on where the joint is, its over 3m wide and they don't generally make them that big as they are too fragile

Its not uncommon to have a timber frame house with a proper brick facade, that's what I'd suggest is what this house is

« on: 22 January 2019, 18:47:46 »

120BHP - is that not the 2.2DTi?
They did a 120bhp 8v common rails diesel as well as a 120bhp and 150bhp 16v common rail

Badge colour and oil filler location are two ways to immediately identify

Of course if it’s only for short runs with the odd long one and you want toys I know where £1600 will get you an 06 2.8 v6 turbo petrol Signum  :D  :y
