the light has been on since the cambelt was done in 2010 i think

I have been considering a cheap estate for the other half to use as a dog bus, and no offence to the OP but there are a few things in this thread concerning me - the airbag light being on, with no mention of this or explanation in the original ad, until it was discovered as a result of an unrelated picture request.

I don't think this adds up to be fair - and airbag light would fail the MOT, this has been the case for some time now, at least 3 + years. So it wouldn't have been passing it's MOT's for the last 4/5 years had the light been on that long. So either the light has been on for less than 5 months, which was roughly the last MOT test - OR a dodgey garage has been passing it regardless of the light.

I'm really not having a dig mate but you must be able to see where, as a potential buyer, I am coming from? :y

I think it's a punctuation issue... I read

As...

Care to explain the difference... ::)

SRS = Supplementary Restraint System which last time I looked includes Airbag, Side Airbag and seat belt pretensioners. :-X

The difference is there is no criteria for an air bag fail in the mot only the srs lamp, and if any mot tester can show you the item in the mot test that an airbag light that is on fails an mot then he needs to read the mot manual. I have passed many with the lamp on and have even taken it up with vosa and they agree only srs light fails hope this helps :y :y

That makes absolutely no sense... Please read the manual tells us...
Control indicator v for belt tensioners The belt tensioners are monitored electronically together with the airbag systems. Their operational status is indicated by control indicator v in the instrument panel. When the ignition is switched on, the control indicator lights for approx.4seconds. If it does not light, does not go out after 4 seconds or lights while driving, there is a fault in the belt tensioner system or the airbag systems; see page89. There is a possibility that the belt tensioners or the airbag systems will not be triggered in the event of an accident.Have the cause of the fault remedied. We recommend that you consult your Vauxhall Authorised Repairer.

From page 81 of the owners manual...

this is an age old problem the air  bag light does not come under the mot only the srs light and if it is not in the mot testers manual you cannot fail it you are allowed to advise that the light is on the same as you can advise if the engine management lamp is on abs light should light up for approx. five seconds and then extinguish when I get to work tomorrow I will take a pic of the page concerned and try and post it on here  :y :y

If you read the section quoted from the owners manual, it is for the whole system, not just the airbags, it isn't even called 'airbag light'...

Anyway... Point is with those seats in that car the light is on because the seat systems are incompatible with that car. Ergo it's a failure. :-X

Might get away with swapping the seatbelt tensioners for facelift ones, but don't bank on it... will need resetting either way, and removing the bulb is, or bloody well should be, an MoT failure as it then won't come on at all.

Any ways, to give this car a chance to redeem itself...

Any rust? Arches/doors/tailgate...
What condition is the bodywork in?
Are the tyres legal?
Any service history?
How many owners?

It had new front suspension wish bones, steering control arms & anti roll bars links fitted to pass last MOT, cost £250.00 in parts & £150.00 in labour. The car also had a new coil pack, spark plugs & plug lead set fitted. £160.00 in parts & £80.00 to fit them.

Seatbelt tensioners from the donor car would be the same as OP`s current car as MFL/FL are the same. Just needs a decent reader on it to find out the cause of SRS light being on

A previous '03 plod car of mine had had early MV6 seats fitted, but previous owner had needed to swap the pretensioners from the original seats to keep the light off :-\

the body work is very good no rust on the panels apart from round the tail gate wiper ,,  its a shame but if it doesn't go i will have to break it for parts  :( :(
It had new front suspension wish bones, steering control arms & anti roll bars links fitted to pass last MOT, cost £250.00 in parts & £150.00 in labour. The car also had a new coil pack, spark plugs & plug lead set fitted. £160.00 in parts & £80.00 to fit them.
Ok :y could be a good project car then :y

Depends which diagnostics software you refer too, obviously the fault has to be fixed before any diagnostics software can reset the code.

And no mention of any misfires/rough running in your original description ???

Do yourself a favour, go through the car thoroughly, fix what you can, interior and puncture would be a start. Give it a bloody good clean, take some decent pics with a camera that doesn't tint everything blue, and then relist it with all the recent work done AND ALL the faults as well.

This way you will not only get more serious interest, but also more importantly, get a half decent price for it.

As it stands, I suspect the only reason it hasn't been bought as a breaker is that it looks and sounds about £150 overpriced :-\
