Title: 12v cig
Post by: raywilb on 12 May 2017, 12:00:48
is this right . I only use the cig lighter for charging, sat nav etc. the front 12v outlet is post ignition but the rear is pre- ignition.( discovered by chance today ) is that how its meant to be.

Yes, and the rear one goes out after a set time - 30 seconds/minutes?

Ron.

As Ron says rear one is on a Timer, so its not really pre ing. but more on a timer after the ing. is switched off. Not always enough to charge things, 15 to 20 mins seems to ring a bell.

The Timer is also only on certain flavours, CD upwards, again from memory, don't believe GLS and MV6 spec had them.

Front wired off W contact.

Rear wired from consumer relay, so stays on for 15mins after ignition turned off.

Just to enquire about the rear 12 volt socket.

When I bought my Elite the air suspension pump in the drivers wing had been removed assume as a result of a failure in a previous ownership and rear socket didn't work so assume fuse etc had been removed.

I had originally intended to refit air shocks so fitted pump from my old elite and connected wiring plug  in readiness for the project but then gave up on the idea and never did anything further.

Now have a reason to be able to use the rear 12 volt socket ,but assume if I refit the fuse the pump will just carry on running all the time engine is running. What do I need to unplug in the relay box to get socket working without air pump.

Sorry to tag onto this thread but related topic ;)

If i remember right. Under the dash you will see 2 big black relays together. You can pull one of theses to stop the pump. Cant remember which one but if you pull the wrong one your main beam wont work.

It's the right hand one of the two small relays in mine that switches the pump on and off.  and someone had replaced the rear shocks with standard ones on mine but had not bothered to stop the pump operating so a quick pull of the relay sorted it.
