Oil on painted floor garage...
« on: 08 April 2016, 21:53:35 »

When transferring oil from 20L drum into smaller 5L bottles I managed to spill some on the garage floor.  ::)

I've mopped it up as much as I can with paper towels, it's left a slippery surface there now, what's best method for cleaning/removing it?  :-\ :-\

The floor was sealed then painted a couple of years ago now.

Water would just sit on top of the oil, not actually remove it?

No... Back to school... Oil is molecularly lighter than water and will float off the floor and rise through the water and pool on top... If you thought the floor was slippery now, just add water ;D

As STEMO says, washing up liquid, hot water, plenty of kitchen roll and a stiff brush. Job jobbed :y

Use the washing up liquid neat, and scrub with a stiff brush.

Rinse away with warm water and another brush.

Climbing on Mr. Tunnie's back (NOT literally!), what is the recommended method of removing oil stains from a concrete driveway? I've tried Gunk and similar products, butno improvement at all.

Neat washing up liquid, steel brush and boiling water...

Obvious caveats re working with boiling water ;)

I wouldn't trust a wire brush or brake cleaner on my painted garage floor. Washing up liquid and a cloth, five minute job for Mrs T.
All very technical innit?  ;D

Wire brush is a specific requirement for brick/concrete driveways..

Painted floors as above ;)
