Should shocks do this?
« on: 10 April 2016, 23:32:49 »

The MacTrac shocks I fitted late last year, I've never been 100% happy with. Felt ride was too stiff, but more so recently more rattles from the shock area. Jacking everything up, could not find any play in anything. So this evening I popped off the shocks and compared them to the 50k old GM ones they replaced.

Quite a difference, first show in video is MacTrac vs GM. I can't remember the GM ones going on, if just over time they have seized around this point.  :-\

But a clear difference between the two, I've stuck my old GM ones back on to see if it cures what I've been hearing past few days.

Can't see how top hats can rattle.
top-hat, large washer, bush, body, bush, large washer, topnut, all tight. How can top hat rattle :o.
The top hat is clamped with that lot,was the shocker re-tightened with weight of car, on suspension,( on it wheels after a test drive.)

Well I've fitted the GM ones in exactly same way = No Ratting when driving.

Pressure is all downwards when tightened up, it's side to side motion that causes the rattle. As going over a speed bump there are no issues at-all, it's completely silent. Only a rough road would cause it.

Only thing I can think of, assuming fitted correctly, is that the bottom end of the plastic section has enough give to allow it to contact shock body easily, causing the rattle.

Given the price differential, is this really a surprise ???

Which is why I always use AGP when they can supply specific parts I need, there is never a problem with refunds etc if there is a problem.  :y

Yes. Absolutely no quibble. Always had great service from them, I'll look to fit GM.

Having luxury of 2 Omegas, the one with GM shocks rode far, far better than non GM. Given the state of the roads these days, comfort is key!
