Following three Omega.

2007 Signum 2.8T.......which is better than the Omega. :y

2015 Jaguar XFR.........which is OK.

Didn't you have an expensive Merc of some description for a short while until the thought of the repair bills made you wet yourself and got rid?  ::)  ;D

This topic is much like 'not mentioning the war' in Fawlty Towers.

Emotions are still raw. :-X :)

What mighty beast gave you such a dose of the willies that you had to sell her on prematurely then?

I believe it was the very good looking CLS500?  :D  ;D

I do like the CLS, especially as an estate a shooting brake. I looked but they weren't quite heavy enough for my caravan & the later cars have an iPad glued to the dash for the sat-nav etc

Since the Omega went I've had :-

1999 BMW 530d E39 Touring
2006 Land Rover Discovery 3
2008 Ford Mondeo 2.2TDCi Titanium X
2004 Volvo V70 2.4D5

All good cars and I still have the Mondeo and the V70. :y

Shame the E39 derv had to be cubed when it was sitting right on the very edge of classic car status and worth  a fortune. :)
Stop fighting, girls.  ;D

To put it in perspective, the repair on the merc cost more than the beemer was worth.  ;D

My old Beemer is alive and well, and enjoying her retirement in Torquay:)

In which case Basil Fawlty will soon be hitting it with a large branch as it needs a damn good thrashing. :)

I have not replaced my 2.2 CDX estate which I love to bits but have bought a low mileage 1991 Mercedes 230TE auto estate as a retirement toy.  It has most of the options, aircon, cruise, electric windows and sunroof etc. etc. and it feels a similar car to drive to the Omega but a bit smaller.  However I can still shove a jukebox in the back so all is well.

My 3.2 MV6 is racking up 20K plus a year and is now on 216K.  I figure that before 300K I will need to retire it. In 3 or so years.

If I wasn't buying a (3rd) house and wasn't putting £50K deposit down, I'd be buying a Monaro for about £10K, but I am and I need to find £210K to pay off the 2 mortgages before i retire, in about 15 years.

So I'm thinking I'd probably replace the Omega with an old CL500.  Cheaper than a Monaro and yet a potentially more expensive way to own a V8 in terms of what might go wrong.

The replacement for my estate will depend on the available budget. If it's good, then I'll buy the latest petrol, manual V70 I can afford. If it's not very much, then I'll be looking for an Astra or Rover 75 estate.

Don't be bulling up the sigmund, no one is going to part with the £250 you want for it on here.

WBAC have offered £500....but it is worth more than that to me as a future classic. :)
Yes. There are quite a few future classics knocking around, don't you think?  ;D

In the last 10 minutes I have switched from Saga to the AA for car insurance. New policy £149.02.

Pity the road tax is close to £600. :'(

Ah well......that's the price you pay for owning such a desirable and exclusive car. :)
We are with the AA but pay considerably more than that. But, then again, we don't live in a field.  ;D

Insurance quotes inevitably rise when motorists become old and infirm.

Not much you can do really. :)

I'm not complaining, 3 cars fully comp,  3.2, 2.0 Mondeo, 1.4 Jazz for under £600. ::)

That would be next on the list. I don't like any of the German alternatives.

I quite like my V70, it's grown on me.  :y

If I saw an auto AWD with reasonable miles and at a decent price, I'd be tempted.  :)

Unfortunately I rather think you've hit on the two richest veins of Volvo unreliability there! At least from what I've read online.
