General Car Chat / Are all 2.2s created equal?
« on: 20 January 2017, 09:28:25 »
I know that there are two 'generations' of the v6 fitted to the Omega... X2.5/3.0 and Y2.6/3.2... the obvious differences being dbw throttles and coil packs rather than leads.

I also know that all the 2.0 Omegas have X20 engines in either 8 or 16v form and all with cabled throttles.

But what of the 2.2? Are they all Y22 dbw engines, or are early ones X22?

General Car Chat / Project advice
« on: 13 January 2017, 19:12:45 »
Right, have found a car which should fit the bill... It's a manual estate, with MoT but needs some love...

Good points, it's a Cdx, so I guess that's a pretty good basis for adding goodies like heated rear seats as it already has a sunroof and Xenons... Also, am I right in thinking that it won't have self levelling suspension, which will make it more straightforward for firming up:-\

OK bits... MoT is only until the spring, it doesn't look too shabby. It's done around 130k... It's a 2.2 petrol, so whilst it won't set the world alight, it will go ok, and will be the most straightforward to upgrade... Will cross this bridge later.

Bad bits...

The interior looks like a bomb has hit it, and although the body work is generally ok, it clearly has some rust growing on the osr quarter... Expecting to find a hole behind the bumper trim, although this shouldn't be a big issue to fix :-\

Have asked the seller a few questions before I go and see it...

General Car Chat / DTi vs Tdi

Obviously the 2.2 is manual only, and from what I gather, the 2.5 treats the autobox as a service.

Looking around, it would seem although that the BM lump is more robust, the only real weakspot on the 2.2 is the fuel pump... Is there any consistency with regard to fuel pump life expectancy?

There's mention of cars with less than 120K failing, and yet others seem to manage 200+ without issue. Is it enough of a worry to avoid high mileage cars, regardless of price, condition and history?

Basically am considering a project and have seen a few cheapish Omegas around, including a couple of diesels, but know little of them...
