Last year (and this year) I ran winters from late October to late March, no problems spinning out or lighting the rears up (unless it's pouring with rain and I go from 0 to WOT with a significant amount of steering lock on exiting a junction) in temperatures from -5C to +15C..

I'd posit she's either bought knock off tyres or has no idea how to drive.

All that was needed was a little diesel spill on that corner and it wouldn't have mattered what tyres were fitted ???

you have right.. here , diesels outnumber all others here, many of them throw small unburned particles from exhaust which cover my cars hood and the crowded roads .. so brake distances increase at the least..  :(

I would add, as we have the same car, the tc is pretty good, it was corner speed that upset it by the sound of it. And that corner speed was at line astern speeds in rush hour on a motorway roundabout.
Other traffic had no problem. I asked similar questions, albeit more.... Carefully. ;D

Because they had the correct tyres on. ::)

Using summer tyres on one axle and winter tyres on the other is blatantly asking for trouble.  Nothing sensible about it.

As for winter tyres being useless at warmer temperatures, my mum forgot to remove her winter set last summer and had no issues, she drives a RWD 2.8 Merc.

When I first got my saloon it had winter tyres on it and I chose to continue running them after April. They broke traction easily but no more so than cheapo budget summer tyres ::)

These people have some for sale ;D

My tyres, as Lazydocker can testify, are M+S rated and work well in the wintry conditions that we occasionally get here. They also cost about half what some people have paid for allegedly superior (based on reviews) tyres :y

I'm about to go out to pick up some shopping and it must be 10ºC out there.

I'm leaving the winter tyres on.

I'll let you all know if I fly off the road and die ;)  :y
