Smoke out the exhaust means its burning a fluid of some kind, in cold weather due to the size of the exhaust system on the Omega, it can "smoke" fair bit in the cold mornings, but this is nothing more than moisture from the system burning off as it heats up.

In this hot weather we have currently, plus you say its on the return journey means the exhaust is up to temp, so its burning something.

Grey-ish/White tint to smoke = Water/coolant
Blue-ish/dark tint to the smoke = Oil

Look very closely and monitor the coolant & oil levels.

Any oil down the plugs would be quite quickly burned off, within first few miles.

I know that from dropping a load of oil down the 3.0 V6 plugs, from a cam gasket. Clouds of smoke on start up but soon goes!
