Thank you everyone for your help, much appreciated. I do have a set of the proper XZN bits. But don't fancy disturbing the hub, as the bearing is OK.  Will go the suggestions route to fit a new pin, into the old slot.

Omega General Help / Prefacelift handbrake back plate removal
« on: 23 March 2023, 14:48:28 »
As the title says. Has anyone had any luck, removing the bolts. That hold the back plate, that the handbrake pad holder pins, twist into, on a prefacelift? I thought I had sorted the problem, but the pin has pulled back through on oneside. I was able to fit a pin from the back on oneside. But the hub carrier is in the way on the otherside. Or has anyone found a fix.

I do have the proper spline sockets, but was thinking maybe the sockets, that bite into bolts might be better?

I have added a photo, to show bolts and hole I mean. The pad pin hole is the exact one in the photo, that has pulled through.

Thanks in advance for any help.

P1500 Electronic Throttle Control Motor Failure. Check wiring first thing to do. Then check if it isn't dirty or gummed up with standing.

Omega General Help / Re: Best complete front track rods
« on: 10 March 2023, 12:13:21 »
Thanks DG, for the quick reply. The strange thing is that there is no tyre wear. Will see about another setup check.  Am I right in thinking the correct settings are as follows?

Rear Toe and Camber will be a compromise, but Thrust angle MUST be zero.

Front, Toe is +0° 03"
Camber should be -1° 10"

Or should the Toe-in be
Saloon . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0º10’ ± 10’
Variation with inner wheel turned in at 20‡ . . . . . . . . . 1º40’ ± 45’

No ifs or buts
The rear settings vary car to car as they have a single adjustment that does both camber and track. But it is fundamentally critical that the thrust angle is zero

The Omega is particularly fussy, and absolutely must have Thrust Angle of 0'00 only.  Compromise the rear camber if necessary, even if its way out - though that's a sure sign the rear suspension arms are badly bent

Set the front camber to -1 degree 10’. Without adding weight inside the car. All the other angles will be OEM.

Thanks.

Omega General Help / Best complete front track rods
« on: 10 March 2023, 11:01:10 »
As the title says. Who make the best aftermarket track rods for Omegas?  Febi, Trw, Myele or Lemforder or any other make, that anyone has good reviews of?

I know that I replaced a steering idler not so long ago on the Omega, with a lemforder. I ended up putting the original back on, as there was loads of play in the new one.  So was wondering about the quality of their track rods.  I have a loose steering feeling. The steering feels light and seems to wonder if I hit a bump or the road is not even. I have replaced all front suspension components, as the coils were snapped, wishbone bushes had gone. Centre track rod and the track rods were worn. It went straight through the MOT. (Before all the work was done, for the MOT. The car was great to drive, not even pulling to the left. Even with the worn and damaged parts). Cann't remember what trackrods I put on, but they weren't a crappy pair.

Thanks again for any help or suggestions.

Omega General Help / Propshaft to diff bolts
« on: 04 March 2023, 20:42:00 »
Before I remove the diff. Can anyone tell me, if the bolts on the propshaft to diff, on a 2.0ltr can be reused maybe with a bit of threadlock. Or do they need to be changed as recommended? I have looked for the bolts, but have been unable to find them. If new ones are needed will 10.9 bolts be OK?

Thanks in adance for any help.

Omega General Help / Re: Drive shaft differences
« on: 10 February 2023, 16:08:20 »
Thanks Omegod, for checking the two drive shafts you have.  I did a side by side check, with the old one and as you say. I couldn't see a difference in length, so have fitted one of them. I have torqued the 6 bolts to 50Nm just got to do the angle tightning.

No warning lights have come up, when moving it slowly back and forth in the drive. So hopefully all is well.

Thanks to Omegod, who I bought the DTI drive shafts off. They arrived today, well packaged and protected, the parcel woman struggled with the weight. Now I have only got to work out the lengths, so can fit correct one to passenger side.

Thanks DG. It probably is a stupid question, but is there a difference in length of drive shafts. From passenger side and driver side, or are the shafts the same length, no matter what side?

Thanks everyone for the information.

Here are the links to the 2 drive shafts, I have been looking at.

This link sounds more promising the person says they will fit a V6

Omega General Help / Re: Drive shaft differences
« on: 04 February 2023, 12:20:25 »
Thats great. The parts person at vauxhall checked. And said there was two types of cv, but a complete drive shaft from a 2.2 should fit, with no problems from the teeth for the sensor, being different and the splines going into the diff are the same. So thought best check on here as there are knowledgeable, people on here.

I have been out and took measurements, to see if can find a boot off another car.  Measurements are, cv side 63mm, length to the smaller end of the boot 110mm, small end of shaft 28mm. Still cann't find one, plenty of outer cvs, with boots attached.

Thanks again.

Omega General Help / Drive shaft differences

Would anyone be able to tell me, if a drive shaft from a 2.2 Omega will direct fit a 2.6 Omega. Or if there is any difference in the end splines, on the shaft that goes into the differential, or even shaft size. If not are the number of teeth for the speed sensor, on the inner CV the same?  I have a split inner CV boot on passenger side, on my 2.6. It was OK for MOT, so damaged it after. I thought I had got the correct boot, but it was too small in length. And am struggling to find the correct passenger side inner cv boot. But just found 2 good 2nd hand drive shafts, but both are off 2.2 omegas.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well had another look, at the bleed nipple. It turned out to be a snapped drill bit, which I managed to get out. But the bleed nipple is definately fubar. What I might do at a later date, is take the caliper off and see if I can, drill it out so there is only a small bit left inside the thread, making it easier to remove then clean up the threads and overall the caliper. Done it before on the front caliper, on the 2ltr omega.

The discussion on the upgrading a solid disc caliper to a vented one is a interesting read.  If I understand correct, what is being said is that the braking efficency will be reduced, so it isn't really a good idea to do the conversion?  Is that correct?

Another thing I found as I have been doing research, on sorting the bleed nipple. Is a insert and a bleed nipple, where you drill out the old bleed nipple and fit the new insert, with red threadloc and just fit the bleed nipple into it.

Thanks Nick W for the quick reply. Sorry to sound stupid, but is that the same size as used on the ABS brake line fittings aswell?

Thanks again.

Thanks DG for the quick reply.  I have found refurb kits including all the O ring seals for both the solid and vented calipers. Would I need the vented caliper kit, even though converting solid caliper to vented using the spacer, or the would I need the solid caliper kit?

Here are links to the different kits
