Thanks for all the help.  As said the one old one confused me, being something similar to a nail. Never really looked at the other old ones, because just wanted to get them out, because I didn't want to be beat, even though all new stuff was going to be used.  ::)

Now only got drivers side rear to overhaul, but should only take a few minutes, now got all proper parts. Then will flush the fluid through for new. Famous last words ;Dy

Panic over.  Got them sorted, hadn't fitted them right :y. Found the old pin bits, from the old caliper to see how they compared. 3 of them are the same as the new ones, but somewhere along the line, the previous owner decided to use a odd pin for some strange reason.

MOT has never picked up any problems, with handbrake or braking.

Thanks anyway.

Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction, of the correct brake pad locking pins for a 1995 2.0ltr 16v estate? I replaced the calipers for new ones, which are correct. Got genuine VX rear pads, but the kit I was told to get Mintex MBA1271, do not go right through to the other side of the caliper. The pins on the original caliper were, a flat head on the one end, with the other end tapered.

The other ones mentioned are Mintex MBA1266, but these don't even show as fitting a Omega.

Now got the back end sorted, bought correct handbrake shoe fitting pins, that lock into back plate, they went in no problems and shoes even stayed as should.

So got the back end sorted apart from the brake pins.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / Re: 1995 rear brake back dust shield undo
« on: 13 August 2021, 15:21:29 »
Found a pair of back plates to fit Calibra, a pair to fit Senator. Both of these are from Germany and cost £130.08 plus £10.08 Services from outside UK. Also a pair of Omega ones £150 plus £12.00 Services from outside UK. From the same place. All of them the pins locks into the back plate, not the newer type where they come through it.

From what I have been told, my 95 Omega was waiting around in a warehouse for a while. So might not be a 95, was just registered from new as a 95? Did the earlier Omegas, use parts possibly from Senators for back brakes?

That picture is from the rear bearing change guide :y

You are correct. I borrowed it to show the bolts I was on about. I have had another look, I cannot seem to find anyway to put the pin in from the back. But it doesn't matter at the moment.

Now got another problem. The newer style fixing pins are longer than the original ones, that just twisted into the back plate. Also the new spring that fits on the pin, is wider than the original. This is causing the shoes to not fit correct.  The ones I need apparently fit the SENATOR, ROYALE, CARLTON and OMEGA, plus some old Vectras.

Thanks for all the help.

Andy H.

This is what has happened to the pin retaining holes. So wanted to do the same as you had done. I can get to the one hole, but cannot see the other, will have another look in a while. :y

Hi Nick W. Thank you for the advice. I haven't touched the bolts, wanted to check before touching them first.

Thanks for all the help.

Omega General Help / 1995 rear brake back dust shield undo
« on: 11 August 2021, 22:22:15 »
Could anyone tell me, before I undo them. If the four female Torx Head bolts, allow the back plate dust shield, to move?  The reason I am asking is that, I am completely rebuilding the handbrake on the wifes 1995 Omega. The pins that are on it to hold the shoes, are the old type that twisted into the backing plate. The new ones come through the backing plate. I have read the modification Vauxhall did from the old style to the way the later style. Just want to confirm everything.  The Torx bolts I am on about can be seen, on the back plate and the new pin setup in the hub bearing guide.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / Re: 1995 2.0 16V petrol rear caliper change
« on: 09 August 2021, 07:08:10 »
I am not worried if the new ones are still ATE. I have contacted a company, but they say that the ones that they are selling, will not fit.

These are the ones
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303873825294
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303873828398#vi-ilComp

or these which show fit, but also show as fitting a 2.6 which I believe are different width calipers?

Thanks for all the help

Omega General Help / 1995 2.0 16V petrol rear caliper change
« on: 09 August 2021, 06:33:14 »
Does anyone know, if there is a Lucas or another make beside ATE, for the rear caliper on the wifes 1995 Omega, do 2.2 petrol calipers fit and are they Lucas? If they are what am I looking for when purchasing them, OE code etc. Or could anyone point me to some, even Ebay will do. Car is off road at moment.

I need to replace the ones on the car, as they are the original ones which need replacing and the brake pad securing pins are rusted into the caliper. I uprated the calipers and discs on the front for Lucas.  Is there a Lucas that is a straight swap, that will also use the original size disc, as just bought new discs to fit.

The car is a 1995 2.0 16V estate model, with ATE calipers.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was looking at the pinouts on the back of my radio. I was wondering if anyone knows what the Audio in pins at the top right in the picture are for and if there was a way to use them as a AUX in?

Thanks for any info.

Omega General Help / Re: Space in ashtray slot...

Why don't you remove the ashtray, that is in your omega on the drive. You will know what space you have. ;D

This all sounds like my kind of fun. ;)

Omega General Help / Re: E10

I was at my local Asda Supermarket today. And noticed that the pumps show E10. No other petrol, the other pump next to the E10 was diesel. Is anyone elses Asda fuel station the same?

Looks amazing. Love the blue omegas. I once had a prefacelift in Nocturn Blue (I think that was the name). It changed colour in different light. Much nicer than silver.

Could anyone tell me what Fuel pressure readings I am looking for, on the 2.0 16V X20XEV petrol engine?

Ignition key to the on position engine not running.

Engine running

Engine under load (was told transmission in reverse (automatic) holding the brake while gently giving the engine a slight amount of throttle)

The one where FPR vac pipe is removed, done with engine running for a few seconds, what should the pressure jump upto?

Also how long is the pressure in the fuel rail, supposed to stay from turning off the engine. And what sort of drop should I expect?

I think the FPR is on the way out, as the vac pipe is dry, but there is a strong smell of fuel vapour in it. But want to check it before I purchase one. Also hopefully will tell me if injectors are working ok.

There is still a smell of being rich when idling, but not as bad as it used to be.  Changed Coolant temp sensor, new complete Idle Air Control Valve. Got a Throttle position sensor. plus other bits. Genuine O2 changed, new exhaust from downpipe to back box. Type approved Cat.

Thanks for any help
