P0340
« on: 28 December 2012, 10:33:40 »

My new car of Joshs' has taken to lighting up the Spanner Light intermittently ::)

Only code is 0340 x3. Car is an '03 ex plod manual with 130k. No history from 100k.

Is the camshaft sensor a reliable code, or just a red herring :-\

Only time I've seen mention of that code on here is in relation to a trapped wire or as you say, a red herring in relation to crank sensor, but usually with a load more red herrings, and no 0335

Double check the cable/plug is sound, and also check the cambelt timing.

Sensors should be OK 2nd hand ;)

It had a selection of codes including 0235 and 0300  :-\ Not sure what might have been historical so left the ECU unplugged over night. The only code to come back so far is the 0340 :-\

Had a quick look, though didn't see anything out of sorts :-\

Will be servicing it in the next couple of weeks so shall proper look see :y

The Motronic ECUs are non volatile, so should retain codes after removal.

Its probably worth getting all systems cleared via Tech2, and then see what comes back after a few days.  Not sure how far that Wood fella is from you - worth a trip?

Agreed, especially as you have no other symptoms.  Had a cam sensor go on the 2.6 Estate when we first had it - symptoms stalling on idle and difficult to start, codes 0340 x 3 - Vx fitted new crank sensor (as cam sensors do not often fail) which didn't cure, then fitted new cam sensor which cured immediately.  (All done under warranty)

Light back on again, although still intermittent :-\

Codes via pedal trick are :

0340 x3 from yesterday
0335
0340

No trapped wires, light first came on on Christmas eve.

Could it be a sign of a dicky tensioner :-\

iirc £45 , but MUST be dealer only. Check the plug is the same in the car park before you leave though, they can't tell from the computer for some reason.

Although TheBoy said it IS the £45 One, when I got one for a late 3.2.

Seeing as the P0340 seems to appear more often than the P0335 , it wouldnt be a case of the cam sensor causing the ecu to throw up spurious other codes, would it  :-\
