wheels are painted with the same metallic paint and laquer (clearcoat) .. so whatever is harmful for your car paint is valid also for wheels..


problem with brake dust is when its mixed up with mud and let for long, it sticks to laquer surface .. you can always use paint protector wax (used on car paint) to clean them without harming the surface.. first wash, then apply one layer and buff with a soft towel once in a month.. they wil have less dust than before..

Fair enough, but body paint doesn't get covered in brake dust..?

Right, so what to use? Kosovans have already washed the wheels, with similar methods as the rest of the car, plus their wheel cleaner, yet the brake dust remains.

paste with wax..  but if your car washed weekly at least ,you wont have that dust problem or you are making very high mileage daily

Weekly? In winter? With floods? It hasn't been washed for weeks.

So, cem, what to use? Dtm's RobG's and Minifreeks suggestions all look viable.

When we have a half decent winter, the muck they spread on the roads does wonders for shifting baked on brake dust, hence my initial suggestion... should be almost free too, assuming you possess salt and sugar

A lot of the chaps on detailing world use the thing in my link above. Results look spectacular on the web as well. But as I said, no personal experience per se.

Once the wheel is clean you could use a wheel sealant too, it just sprays on and lasts fora couple of washes too

Quite true that Al as the wheel sealant is silicone based I think....
