Struggling with choice of car...............
« on: 13 April 2014, 23:17:31 »

I love my Jeep, but daily MPG is becoming very expensive, so I need to look to a replacement.... :( :( :(

Now members on here are quick to criticize members purchases, non Omega, so what do you suggest?

My commute is 12 miles, each way, on good A roads, work means driving around town mostly.

£10k ish, would prefer to pay money rather than borrow, budget and Auto are a starting point, auto is absolutely fixed.

Looking for good MPG and easy access, 'sit up and beg' style suits me, struggle with anything low, also need 4 doors and big boot, show me something better that a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, had one for over 3 years and loved it...................

What sort of MPG figures would you need? What does the Jeep do now?

Buy a gassed Jeep!  :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-4-7-V8-auto-Limited-LPG-Converted-/221359370359?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item338a0bf077

That's exactly the same as I have but will not do much better than 30 MPG equivilent on gas, a little more that I get with a diesel engine..... :(

Looking for 40 prefer 50 MPG, and don't want to gas anything, cant be doing to many filling station runs..............

Do you have a preference for a 4x4 or MPV?

The Volvo XC90 D5 would probably be my choice for a 4x4. Real world MPG is likely to be mid 30's though, but better than most competitors.

If it were a MPV, I would look for a Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCI. They hold their value well. I always avoid French cars out of warranty. I have never had a problem free one, even 2010/11 one's. A £10k french car will very quickly loose money. A Volvo or Ford would be a better financial bet.

Or, how about the AWD estate variants with slightly higher ride height? Audi A6 all road, Volvo XC70 etc?

If you want me to keep an eye out for things in my travels...just let me know!

No, but do prefer the sit up and beg position, dont need 4x4 or high speed, but would like 'nippy' around town, as I said think Citroen C4 Grand Picasso as a starting point, VX Mummybus a possibility....... :-\ :-\

Problem with Volvo is the headlight washer dulls the plastic headlights and the are £400 each to replace, and apparently there is something about the tyres that makes them very expensive......... :( :(
