Cars for Sale & wanted / Free to good home. Due to time waster
« on: 23 March 2024, 09:11:55 »
Due to health and family problems. I am getting rid of my two Omegas, free to anyone who wants them. They will need to be trailered as no mot on them.

One is a 1995 2ltr Estate. These are the things I have done to it.

replaced cat with a Type approved 2.2 one and new o2. Also blanked egr. Removed Secondary air system. And fitted a new manifold.

replaced all brakes. Just need to remove surface rust off brake discs before mot. Replaced the back diff as original was whining.

Got loads of spares, including four doors. It has had a replacement front screen aswell.

The other is a 2.6 Saloon. It has not long gone out of Mot. So also will need trailering.

I have replaced the complete drive shaft. That failed mot. Brake pipes cleaned up ok. It has always started no problem.

The reg No for estate, is N659CNO. Reg for saloon is FM51LDE. If you wish to check mot history of them.

They will make nice projects for anyone, with time.  Will need them gone As soon as possible.
I am near Junction 61 of the A1.

Oil in the plug wells, will give missfire problems. Hopefully once you have done all the work. You will have a nice running car again. I would do the gasket on both sides, seen as you are already there. Saves having to do the work again, later on. Good luck.

Try simple thing first. Clean all the earth leads and the contact, under the battery.  Poor earth connections, can cause all sorts of problems.

This is a good youtube site to watch. He goes into detail how to do repair panels, the easy way with the minimum of tools.  He is also on Facebook. Alot of people have said, that they wouldn't of done repairs before they had seen his channel.

Might be worth trying the paperclip trick, to see if you can get any error codes.

Omega General Help / Re: water ingress
« on: 09 April 2023, 18:44:42 »
Hi Johnnydog

Sorry I only have ones where the housing is removed.  This was on a 1995 Omega, but I cannot see it being any different on the later models.

There are three small flange nuts, inside the car. As looking at the housing behind the glove box, you should be able to see them once the glovebox is removed. I also took the piece of trim out under the glove box, for more access. It fits into some plastic clips fitted to the bulkhead. I didn't have to remove anything else. The nuts are a flange type and a size 10 spanner if I remember correctly, I used a small ring spanner for ease of access. Then a long socket to finish them by hand. One of the bolts that is molded into the housing, was just turning on mine. So once I got the other two nuts undone, I gently prised the housing off the bolt. When refitting, I used some seam sealer around the, foam gasket on the housing and pushed some into, the hole where the bolt that had come out went. The nuts were done up to where they felt tight, then just a little bit more. I didn't overtighten incase the other bolts decided to start turning. Once it was all tightened back up it has not leaked. Hope this helps.

If you use this photo looking in the engine bay side of the scuttle, where the housing has been removed as a reference. You should be able to see roughly where the nuts are inside the car. It wasn't a hard job, just a bit fiddly especially the top one.

The housing off the car, showing the captured bolts. And the hole where the other one, that was turning was meant to be.

Behind the glove box area, there is lots of stuff hiding the scuttle wall area.  That is one of the reasons, I removed the pollen filter housing. It is awkward getting to the nuts, but they aren't overly tight. For the time taken, trying to fight around the area inside, taking off the housing meant, I could get to the whole scuttle area, inside the engine bay. Allowing the cleaning and sorting of any rust problems. Then seam sealed and repainting of the area.

Don't know if this will help. It is of my 1995 Omega but may be the later models are the same? I removed the pollen filter housing from the scuttle, to fix a hole in the bottom of the scuttle around the drain hole. This gave access to the panel seams. Also as can be seen in the photos, there was loads of dirt, that was hidden by the housing. The rust was just surface. Cleaned area up. Seam sealed and repainted. The housing is held by nuts, inside the car that can be undone as normal flange type. But you have to do the upside down position, even with the glove box out. I ran a bead of sealant around the housing, before refitting it. The seal on it is like a kind of foam.

General Discussion Area / Re: Temporary insurance for a omega
« on: 29 March 2023, 20:01:11 »
I have added other cars, to run on my insurance in the past. It used to cost about £30. I thought temp would be cheap, was just suprised at the cost. As you have all said, a full year will be the way to go. I don't agree with no cover, but with prices like this. No wonder people, don't bother. :(

« on: 29 March 2023, 19:48:00 »
Well renewed the Insurance today on my 2.6 Omega. £230 for a year, after sorting it out, asked about temp insurance. So I can take the other Omega for MOT.  Was told that they no longer allow a temporary car cover, on policies so will have to get a temporary cover online. The cheapest I found was £77 for a week, but £215 for a month for a 1995 2ltr Omega. Crazy that it costs as much just a month, as it does for a full year.

Was going to get a full month, so could tax it and see how it goes. Before changing over new policy, to the 2ltr.

Thanks everyone for your help. I managed to get a pin through, from the backside. The way I did it was, just tease the back plate up slightly. Where the cut out is, for the caliper to fit onto the hub. Then with a bit of faffing about, got a pin through. Then tapped the plate back into shape. Works great. The other side of the same plate. I did as was suggested and fitted, the pin from the back with a small washer, to stop the head pulling through.

After checking all bolts, to make sure not missed tightening any of them. On the replacement diff. And on the original prop and driveshafts. Finally got to fill the diff. Then had that great feeling, when car moved under its own power. Now just got to give it a clean. Then hopefully book MOT and it passes.

Thanks again for all the help and info.
