pintle |[ch712]pintl|
noun
one of the pins (on the forward edge of a rudder) that fit into the gudgeons and so suspend the rudder.

I have no idea how we ended up using the word pintle to describe anything like a plunger that moves in and out of an orifice on cars (like the EGR valve, fuel injectors, etc, all have pintles).  I'm sure there's some logic to it, somewhere..  ;D

ta muchly....    so what are the recommended types/brands of oven cleaner ,  just thinking i'll clean up the replacement unit before having the garage fit it....   assuming that's the sensible thing, and do-able with not much more than basic screw drivers and stuff.

(my tool kit is extensive, but is aimed at specific tasks, all completely unrelated to cars....   anything you need done to a guitar, or other stringed instrument, or audio electronics,  it's fine....   and in deed, if you need soundproof walls and ceilings and things like that building, again, very well equipped....    but go beyond changing a wheel on a push bike, and it becomes a tad inadequate )

A pintel valve (opposed to a poppet valve) is a tapered pin which sits in a tapered seat.

Commonly seen on diesel injectors but also used on EGR valves.

Turn it upside down and fill the sooty passages with the wifes finest oven cleaner, work teh pintle valve with a scrwdriver or similar a few times (it does not have much travel) to get the cleaner around all the key parts.

Leave for an hour or so and then flush well whilst again pressing teh pintle.

I still struggle to see how the casting has split, its built like a brick out house....got any pics?

still got a minor issue....   but it's the manifold (probably gasket???) ....  AFAIK, it's driver's side...

are we talking foaming Mr Muscle oven cleaner?  or something else.....

TBH our oven gets cleaned with a damp cloth, and just v ery occasionally might laso use some fairy liquid....      it's supposed to be self cleaning, and we're not supposed to use more aggressive solutions or foams or creams on it, or it'll damage the surface....

so....  i'll have to go out and buy some....   which is why the question...   any preferred brands?   or should i go down to tool station and get some brake or carb cleaner?
