General Car Chat / Re: Old Diesel Fuel
« on: 20 March 2024, 10:27:12 »
How old is the old diesel we're talking about?  ???

Hundreds of millions of years? Tens of millions or just a few millions?  ::)

Sorry, I'll get my coat.  :-[    ;D

Anyway back to Uncle STEMO's article. I lifted the below from the comments section and I think it's a very good point!  :y

People seem to miss the point that this isn't only about the cost of charging a Jaguar EV.  It shows that a car you own can be controlled via software over which you have no control. If someone somewhere in power decides they don't want your car to work, they can just switch it off centrally. Tesla already has immense power over all the privately owned Teslas.  All Teslas come with all facilities but you have to pay Tesla to use certain features. This may sound innocuous as it is used now, but it's a massive power that could easily be misused and individuals will be powerless about it.

Conspiracy theory or fact?  ???

Now I love a good conspiracy theory mind!  ;D

So glad to read that my 29.17p pkwh, plus 62.11p per day standing charge Octopus electricity tariff subsidises EV owners who enjoy a 7.5p pkwh tariff to charge their milk floats!  ::)

Roughly £56 a quarter even if you don't use much electricity. >:(

The wholesale cost of natural gas is about the same price as it was 3 years ago, so why haven't our energy bills dropped back to equivalent levels?  ???

The bastards even had the cheek to put prices up in January as well!  >:(

Think I'll complain to OFGEM!  Oh wait.....   ::) :-X

It is The LC colour, nearest I'll get to one at the prices they are now,  It was purchased for a bit less than advertised, It's on a 63 plate, the only thing I think it wasn't speccd with is heated steering wheel,, Would have liked the full fat VXR but the Tax on them is Stupid, did look at one, it was red so that's a no instantly,.
Biggest issue I've found is Traders who can't be arsed, not tuning up, thinking that everyone is a bit dim,and you point out faults with the car that are looking you in face, obvious ones and they get very defensive, looked at one rear beam heavily corroded to excess,  needed discs,, Wouldn't discount price, and said it's fine,,,   Too

Took a while to find this one, but we have it all locked up.☺️
Try to get some pics up at weekend.

Sounds like a good buy, BG. :y

You won't miss the heated steering wheel if you grew up with ice on the inside of the windows like I did. ;)

In order to get the heated wheel and keyless entry on my car I would have needed to find an extra £800+ for the comfort pack. Needless to say I didn't tick that box.

Does that provide comfort for the car thieves?  ;D

I hear that cars with keyless entry are easier to nick. :)
Yes.....but....on the wife's grandland, if you press the key to lock it, you need to press the key to open it again. Keyless entry doesn't work until you lock the car that way again. I hope that is also the case on more expensive models. If not, why not?

Do you keep your keys in a Faraday cage?......supposedly this will stop thieving scum from nicking your car without the need for keys.

Think I know the answer to this...  ;D

I see  the Drakeford replacement completes the set.

Inevitable really. ::)

And only one of them was elected!  :o   :-X

If it does, its likely that Putin will then carry on into other countries, hoping to rebuild his beloved USSR.

Can he though?

Russia has nothing like the power and pull of the old USSR.

I wouldn't be so sure about that when you consider the rate at which they are lobbing artillery shells at Ukrainian positions and replacing them as well.  The Russians have also been learning lessons over the last couple of years (often the hard way) and apparently are more than matching the Ukrainians in drone warfare.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians are running out of ammunition because the West is reneging on the promises to back them to the hilt.

Appeasing Putler in 2014 was a colossal mistake. Appeasing him in 2024 will be catastrophic, as the ramifications will be felt not just in Eastern Europe, but in the Middle and Far East as well.   :(

There's an environmental argument against such low speeds as vehicles simply aren't designed to travel so slowly... Not to mention the fact that localised pollution is increased by virtue of traffic build up.

Lundun being a case in point as localised pollution increases in direct proportion to each drop in traffic speed/flow.

Yet, some motorways have displayed the Matrix boards to reduce the speed limit to 60mph to 'improve air quality' (supposedly)...the M1 near Sheffield being one  ???

I would have thought that the quicker you get through a built up area on the motorway, the less pollution you cause.  >:D

A blonde goes to the Doctors.

Doctor, why do I keep finding postage stamps from Costa Rica in my vagina?

The amused Doctor replied, Those aren't postage stamps, they're the stickers you'll see on bananas!

   Conservative    Sandesh Gulhane[c]    1,849    5.5    Decrease4.0    3,832    11.3    Increase2.2

If they had any sense and wanted to be inclusive in Scotland you'd think they'd have a Scottish persona at election time.  :)

Zubir McAhmed, Sandesh MacGulhane, and Nadia McKanyange sounds much better. No?  ;D
