I'm with Rangie ...... my commute isn't that different .... around 50 round trip. I don't want to think of trying to cycle home after doing a 12 hr shift. God knows what time I'd have to set off to get to work by 6:50am  ??? ???

I was thinking much the same thing when he announcedthat the average commute outside Lundun is 3 miles...

It may well be at the moment because every fekker is currently 'working' from home and 'commuting' to the nearest Tesco Extra/B&Q to stock up on beer and sunscreen... ::)

From what I understood they are targeting specific journeys outside of London commutes that are less than 3 miles. This is a fair chunk of journeys.

It may not apply to you, but if it takes a proportion of the population in to account, along with getting people fitter (obesity a big factor in Covid deaths) and reduces pollution (which I am throwing in for the greenies), where’s the harm?

It’s not mandatory!

I would only give it a go, once, if they offered me the whole £2 billion. If I did actually manage the 17 miles to work without dying, I would be in no fit state to work again.

Anyone else noticed the pavements just are not wide enough to allow social distancing?

How long before the roads are narrowed (for example on housing estates) and the pavements widened. While they are at it cycle lanes could be installed.

Cycles could be developed with some form of assistance - electric is all the rage at the moment, green and all that. In fact you could call them motorcycles. To get the whole family to destination you could add a pod and call it a sidecar. For regions with bad weather the whole thing could be enclosed in metal and perspex and called an automobilecycle. It might be too big for the cycle lanes though and have to go on the empty roads.

It's not mandatory, but with public transport reduced to 10% load capacity it may as well be...

Also if anyone thinks that you're going to getting £7 airfares anytime soon, running a 189 seat aircraft with 19 pasengers means corporate jet charter fare levels.

You might as well go for the full million seeing as they've suddenly found a couple of billion to spray around encouraging people to don lycra and get on their bikes in our cold, wet and very hilly country.  ::)
